Just fresh from India ’ s comprehensive victory against Pakistan. I have to say that MS Dhoni has just played one of the most brilliant and devastating innings in contemporary cricket. During the course of the innings he completed his 1000 one day runs. With an average of 50 and a strike rate of over hundered this bloke from Jharkhand is nightmare to any bowler.
It is the attitude of this destroyer that attracts one the most. India were reeling today afetr loss of Sachin’s wicket. I need to mention here that the little master played today what may not be the most attractive of his innings but certainly among the most important one.
India seemed to be rocking home when Sachin was at the crease. But after his dismissal pressure mounted and the quick dismissal of Kaif soon after made matters more worse. With an asking rate of around 7 it seemed as if this match too would end up like umpteen other matches where after such a solid start from Sachin the lower order collapse helps India snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. But out came Dhoni and he proved his true worth to the team. Yuvraj Singh in the form of his life was batting on 53 at that time and when the match ended he was on 79 whereas Dhoni scored 72 in just 47 odd balls. He just bludgeoned the Pakistani attack and Inzamam was made to look a mere spectator with no control over the proceedings. Pakistani bowlers were made to look as if the were a school team attack.
Of course the wicket had eased out considerably and was not even a shade of what it was perhaps 20 overs earlier but still to come out and hit the ball all over the park in a situation like this needs some guts. And this destroyer has it in tonnes. He is definitely a precious gem for India and may prove to be the Gilchrist for India in the longer run.
