Got a 5 speed MPi 800, its almost 3.5 yrs now and has done over 65000 kms. All services being carried out at authorised service centres only. I admit it a bit costly as after 50, 000 kms I went in for the recomended engine decarbonizing etc. Got new tyres (radial) and battery changed after 50, 000 kms.
I travel long distances... Covered 670kms in 12 hrs with all the regular pit stops at dhabbas etc. Top speed I have hit on the Golden Quadrilateral is 118kmph, and because of the quality of the road was able to drive at this speed for like 7-8 minutes then had to slow down to overtake etc. Then recently during the rainy season I did an overall 3000 kms over two weeks time though I never over speed during these times (above 110 kms), there has been absolutely no break down- stoppage of anykind in these 3 years time.
Yeah! At the same time, before going on any long journey I make sure to get the car serviced and throughouly checked up. Defintely my maintenance costs are above average, end up spending around 1700 rupees with each service (495 for paid service).
So I think basically this boils down to the good preventive maintenance that has gone in from day one the car was brought. I dont have plans to sell it or upgrade in near future, when I do it will be swift definitely!
On th economy front, get a good 15-16 in city and solid 20-23 on highways. Where ever possible I stop at Reliance petrol pumps during long journey or atleast plan such that I pick up maximum fuel at Reliance pumps. No premium or speed petrol. But I never use AC, and avoid using it as much as possible as the pulling power comes down drastically.
So All I want to say is if youve brough a new car today, do not hesitate to spend money for preventive maintenance it will pay off in the long run. It shows up after time... I have seen several mechanics who drive my car come back to congratulate me on the cars condition.
