I purchased the Alto LXI in November 2009. I am a six footer so I shove the drivers seat all the way back for driving comfort and to make the entry and exit comfortable. It is the best vehicle for the city according to me. You can park it almost anywhere. Don’t expect the mileage that Maruti promised though. In city (Chennai) with the AC on I get about 11.5kmpl.
The company promises anywhere between 16 & 18kmpl in the city. What I am getting is good compared to what the Santro gives which is around 10kmpl. On the highway you tend to get pushed off the road by egoistic drivers behind the wheel of bigger vehicles who seem to dislike the pep that the Alto displays. Since my head touches the roof I find it difficult to see overhead signs and signal lights unless I stoop and look up or my vehicle is parked a long way from the traffic sign/light. So if you are tall and your budget permits you might consider the Santro, I10 or Wagon R.
Otherwise I have no complaints with the Alto. Perhaps Maruti should offer this car as a convertible so that tall people can put the top down and enjoy the drive. I believe the Alto will sell even more then.
