Maruti Suzuki Swift Vxi - Silent Power

I wanted to upgrade from my good old M-800 to a mid-sized car. I did some research by enquiring my colleagues. I found that the best place for comparing models is my company’s parking lot, where hundreds of cars are parked. Owners are always willing to share their experiences.

Even after the recent price hike, Swift Vxi  appeared to be the best choice in the mid-segment cars costing less than Rs.5.0 Lacs. But I was a bit apprehensive about various defects mentioned in the user reviews especially the body rattle. Finally I decided to buy Swift Vxi and  took the delivery in June 2008.

After driving 1000+ kms, I am happy to find that the car is rattle free even at speeds above 100 kms/hr. In fact it is difficult to tell whether the engine is on or off  while idling at signals. The car responds with power while accelerating and slowing. Swift can be described as the’ SILENT POWER’.  The car is well insulated from engine noise, but small pebbles stuck in tyre grooves make occassional clicking sounds. Not a big problem. Gear shifting and steering are smooth. Boot space and rear space are adequate for city use. I don’t intend to move furniture in my Swift.

Swift is easy to handle and definitely fun to drive. My advise to those buying Swift is to buy a good stereo sytem to enjoy the silent power. Best wishes to all.
