I own a Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXI. From day one, problems with fit, finish and quality of interiors were a major let down. The seats, especially the drivers seat was squeaky to a fault. Other problems such as door sounds and general rattle noises were tremendously audible from day one. I know most of you would be wondering what this has to do with the SX4 -- a lot actually!
Like many, I too was completely enamored with its looks and features, and decided to take it for a test drive -- with a desire to own it in the future. I thank God that I did. Many of the cars features and problems are borrowed from the Swift ZXI. The test car was only 4000-odd Kms old -- but the door panels were rattling, the drivers seat was squeaky and the build overall didnt give a reassuring solidity. The doors made a distriburing tinny sound on being closed with windows rolled down -- a problem that I experienced with the ZXI. What surprises me in all this is that Maruti Suzuki seems to take its leadership position for granted, or customer loyalty as a given. With the launch of the SX4, I expected a car with a solid build, refined interiors and long term ownership satisfaction -- I highly doubt that will happen.
Those deciding to invest in the SX4 would be advised to wait and observe the market response. For those whove invested in the car, all the best. Should you find similar problems that I faced with the ZXI, get after the dealership and the company to resolve them.
