Hi! Friends,
I am a fan of maruti, as I have been using their vehicles since the last 9 years. My last vehicle was a Zen, and it was an excellent vehicle. However, as I had to move jobs, I had to sell of that vehicle and buy a new one.
I tried out the Wagon R and liked it instantly. The features are good.
However, the dealer was a guy to watch out for. A slippery tongue, lying at the drop of a hat.
I was interested in buying a Wagin R with Anti lock Braking System (ABS). Since that would have entailed a wait for atleast 2 weeks in getting it, and the sales man had to meet his month targets, he convinced me into taking a model without ABS, as he gave me a dubious statement that the mileage was much lower in vehicles with ABS, a drop by atleast 5 km / Litre.
Since mileage is always a concern for us, and as I was taken in by his words, I said yes and also took the color he recommended rather than the one which was my first choice. At that time it did not strike me that this guy was conning me so as to achieve his monthly target.
In fact on the 27th of September, he even told me that there was a special offer on that day which was that all people who booked the car on that particular day were entitled to a gold coin worth 4000 rupees.
Accordingly, I booked the car on that day. After the car was delivered to me, I took it to a friend of mine, a mechanic who told me the story of ABS reducing mileage was bull shit, and took me to a Maruti person who confirmed it to me.
That was the first shock. THe second and bigger shock was when I went to collect the gold coin, and found to my chagrin that the same fello who had sweet talked me into taking the car now did not have any time for me, and refused to speak to me. When I cornered him on his committment, he was very evasive, and said that there were certain conditions to qualify for the gold coin, and that unfortunately I was not meeting them. He said that he had forgotten to tell me about the conditions, and was not to be blamed as he is after all only human.
I had an argument with him on this and since there was nothing in writing, I could not prove my point, but I had learnt my lesson.
All of You, please beware of the dealers offerings.
