I am APPALLED at the quality of food and service at the Mezzo Mezzo. Any Meditteranean restaurant that cant get garlic bread right, doesnt offer tapenade, serves indifferent food; and whose waiters need to be asked SIX times to get a sliver of asparagus, has a real problem.
Furthermore, eating here has been the cause of an upset-stomach more than once --- so one only comes here rarely, when invited, or under unavoidable circumstances.
The ?last straw? was what happened at a Seafood Promotion, when the Red Snapper wrapped in rice paper was served raw from the inside --- and this was after a near-accident at the beginning of the meal, caused by sitting on a chair whose leg was broken. None of the hotel-execs made themselves available when called-for; but Chef Danio did arrive on the scene, hands-on-hips, with an arrogant YES? like a temperamental prima-donna. At which point he was told, in Italian, EXACTLY what he could do to himself.
There are 3 points worth noting here: 1.While I am aware that food-quality is essentially subjective, there can be no denying or excusing raw or uncooked food (unless its sushi!), posing as it does a severe health hazard.
2.Service and staff ?attitude? is another grey area; but here again, there can be no excusing blatant rudeness and belligerence, especially when uncooked food is involved!!
3.THE CHAIR --- its leg was broken beforehand and loosely tacked-on. It gave way soon after I sat on it (by the way, I weigh around 160 pounds) causing me to NEARLY have a fall and hurt myself.
This things should NOT happen in any fine hotel?and especially NOT in a place with such fancy prices!! Bottom line: if really authentic Italian food is what you want, go to Don Giovanni across the street. Save your self a LOT of money....and your sanity!
