BEST phone for first time buyers on a tight budget

Okay, guaranteed, this is probably one of the worst phones in the world feature wise, but at the start of 1999 it was hangin around very cheap and as the first cell phone I ever bought. As with all cell phones, it has its good points, and it has its bad points. In this review, as with all my others, i’ll fill you in on the good and bad so you can make a good, informed decision.

The Motorola d368, also knows as Motorola Jazz or Motorola Blue (yes even if it is black) is a very basic phone. The battery doesnt last long and if used regularly may need charging every night. Charging however usually completes within 2 hours, extremely good.

The interface, as with all motorola phones doesnt look great, but it is easy to get the hang of. There are no pictures on this phone (like the ones in the quick access menu of the v2288).

The phone operates on the GSM 900 Mhz network. Although not having many features, it does support SMS and Cell Broadcast. Unfortunatly, you cant select a persons number from the phone book to send the sms too. you need to enter it manually.

As you can see from this short review, yes the phone is basic, but it sells for around $50 australian and that includes $25 pre-paid credits. Not bad on a tight budget if you need a phone hey?

The one last thing I like about this phone, is its durability. I bought one, and two of my mates bought one. One of my mates thought he could get away with sleepin on my bed instead of a matress so I threw it at him, it hit him in the back (LOL) and bounced onto the floor hard. It has been dropped off of bikes at high speed, fallen out of car windows and one of them has been taken apart with an incorrect screwdriver and put back together. although the whole case is loose it, and the other 2 mentioned are all still alive and working today. (take no notice of our immaturity, we were 14 then).

For roaming and connection purposes, there is a model of this phone available called the Motorola JazzDB (DB stands for dual band). The phone has slighly more talk time, operates on both 900 Mhz and 1800 Mhz GSM networks, and comes in a nice silver. The rest of this review still applies.

NOTE: My product rating of 4 stars is based on how reliable the d368 has been for 3 years, not based on features.

UPDATE - 27-11-2002

Hmm, someone else reviewing this product states that I called this phone Palm Sized, although I do not once mention that. It is a brick. It also states that the picture above is a motorola starTAC which is also not correct. motorola starTAC’s are flip phones since the early anolgue models right up until today’s tri-band models. Also i’d like to mention that the phone is still going hard. That’s January 1999 to Late November 2002. Not bad.
