A good story...if only......

I watched ’’My Brother Nikhil’’ with a lot of expectations. I had read the story before I saw the movie...that it was about a man’s struggle after being diagnosed with HIV in India in the late 80’s, the stigma associated with HIV at the time and the horrific isolation wards they had back then.

The performance by all the actors was exquisite...especially Sanjay Suri, Victor Banaerjee, and Purab Kohli. A homosexual relationship has never been portrayed on screen in such a sensitive, likeable, acceptable way as it has been done in this movie. The relationship between father and son, parents and daughter...all very well done.

The only problem I had with the movie was the documentary style of narration...just when the movie was beginning to involve you, there is a break and someone starts talking about the character Nikhil. The most touching aspects of the movie were the interactive bits, where the characters talk to each other and display their vulnerability.

Good movie all the same...just get the feeling that it could have been so much better.
