One of the worst sound effects (if not THE worst) ever applied to celluloid. An excruciatingly painful 2 hours of cinematic experience that leaves nothing but ringing in the ears. The same phenomenon from which Bhoot suffered.
That immensely irritating, jarring music - the meaningless high volume monotonous drum beats that the music director thought could pass off as music.
Please, mr Jiji Phillip, did you see the finished product before calling it a project ?
With such an excellent storyline, above average script and powerful performances, how could you let the sound editor and the music director ruin your film ?
With proper sound editing, the movie could have been rightfully called new wave cinema for Bollywood, but this is such a collosal waste of opportunity that it drives one to tears. What was the necessity for creating forced suspense through the explosive banging music ? Much more Suspense can be created through scenes and dialogue and just the right amount of music required to create the mood.
This movie is for niche audience and to be more specific multiplex audience. They dont need to be subjected to devices used to make illiterate people understand whats going on. Point can be driven home in much more sophisticated and subtle ways.
Enough sound basing. Now the positive points.
The performances are just superb. Nandana Sen has delivered an award worthy performance and so has Anil Kapoor (I always suspected that this guy could act)
and Boman Irani. Boman Irani, I hear, is not a trained actor and had begun actring in films only as a hobby. Given that, I think this was an impressive performance, though I think his mannerisms have started showing. Anil Kapoor looks robotic at times. He doesnt show any real emotion till the very end.
Nandana Sens character has been depicted very well.
The script is engaging, although to be honest, I did not find anything new or great in the story. The story could have been made more interesting and definitely multi-layered. The scenes between Boman Irani and his wife are absolutely unnecessary and could have been left out.
On the whole, the movie borders on waste of money
