Neemrana Hotels is a new concept, very well conceived but not very well executed but I think they are on the way to doing a fabulous job. There are about 8 or nine suites. All of the retro, archaic furniture / walls etc.
We went to their "Hotel" at Virajpet Coorg for a 2 night / 3 day stay. We enjoyed the trip. The staff were extremely courteous and capable. The cook, who mainly does Continental cuisine was superb.
However, the place has a whole lot of things that needs to be done up! For the 5 star rates that are charged, there is no proper water supply in the bathrooms - very inadequate. The geasers make a lot of noise. There is no ceiling fan - the pedestal fans make too much noise. There are no TVs in the room. There is a common TV with TataSky connection at the drawing room lobby.
The furniture is antique and beautitful and sturdy. There is a library that has interesting collection of books. The piano on the first floor hall needs to be tuned. It makes awful noises and my daughter who is an excellent pianist found it horrendously maintained (except for the looks)!
Morning coffee and tea - one will have to make it oneself.
The food spread breakfast / dinner or lunch is limited and the hotel staff make what you want and are very consicous of wastage 9which is a good tyhning).
The Garden is lovely and coul be lovlier.
The pricing for the room (given the bare comforts) and the food (only breakfast is on the house) is quite high. There is no bar at the place.
The Manager was on leave - so the staff managed themselves very well - but limied as they did not have powers to do anything extra.
There was no internet connectivity or mobile connectivity within the building that was accessible. May be it is good if you want to switch off from the world for a while!
It is defenitely a good place if you want only quiet!
But not very exciting if you want a little activity thrown in. Kids - specially boys - will find it a bore!
Mercara (Medikaeri or Coorgs capital town?) is about 22 KM from here. The Talacauvery (origin of the river) is a good 47 KM from Medikeri (with about 20Kms) of bad winding and at times steep road). There is the Abbi falls 8 KM from Medikeri on the opposite direction to TalaCauvery. Then there is the Raja Seat (view point for sun set). There are some wild animal sancturies nearby. Pleant of elephant sightings.
I would think it is better to stay at some other place at Medikeri - given the price and lack of comfort at this Neemrana Hotel - the Hotel needs a lot more committment and investment to make it THE PLACE to stay!
