Not my Cup of Tea !

While Statistics say that Nokia’s repute & recognition has enhanced almost 200% over the last 5 years, when compared with any other mobile manufacturer, are we really satisfied with the recently launched models of Nokia? The reply from the customary users will be a big ‘NO’ ! Take, for instance, the 2005-launch of Nokia 1110 and 2006-launch of the Nokia 1110i !! Can you really compare the former models of 3310 or 3315 with any of these latest launches? All these phones are the models of Nokia with a black & white display and with just basic features. But given a choice to choose between these 4 models, no doubt most of us would vote for 3310 in the first place & 3315 in the second place ! Isn’t it true?

Still, here are some of my comments on the Nokia’s 1110 & 1110i models !

1110 & 1110i - THE MERITS

Display

Both models have a black & white display. While 1110 has a delicate amber backlight, the green backlight in 1110i makes it a little more sharp & stunning.

Operations

The 4-way scroll which is present in these models makes operations more faster and at times really easier.

Ring-tones

POLYPHONIC – Yes, they have polyphonic ringing tones with MP-3 grade sound, which is generally unavailable on any other basic phones of Nokia. With this, you could get to hear the downloaded songs / music with their originality !

Weight

Both are really light-weighted just about 80g as against the weights of 3310 being 133g & 3315 with 114g!

Appearance

Both have a compact look with internal antennas. The keys are coupled to each other like 3315 model. Since the key spaces are adequately bigger, typing SMS messages is easier!

Battery

The most important part of any handset is the reliability & longevity of its battery. No doubt Nokia manufacturers handsets with the best batteries- in these 1110 & 1110i too, I’ve experienced the battery to last even for a week. But also it depends on the usage of the phone, still, the battery in these models is certainly trustworthy.

Alarm

Speaking Clock is one of the unique features with these 2 models. You can choose the tone of your alarm as either a Speaking Clock or a ring-tone or just a beep.

1110 & 1110i - THE DEMERITS

(1)

Ringing Tone

As we start pushing ourselves towards polyphonic ring-tones, what is our maximum ringer volume? If you are in an A/C car, well & good – you can hear your phone ringing! But think of the salesmen who go driving their motorbikes amidst heavy traffic sounds and a person traveling by local buses in the middle of ear-breaking noises! If there is no such thing as ‘VIBRATE ON’, I swear you would never know that your phone is ringing especially with models like 1110 & 1110i !!

(2)

Sound Reception

I really don’t understand how, many reviewers have marked 5 Stars for ‘Sound Reception’. Same example of, if you are traveling by bus or if you are amidst heavy traffic – no doubt you are going to have the toughest time hearing the other person talk to you. 1110 & 1110i have the worst sound reception among all other recent launches of Nokia. Of course, these 2 models are headset enhanceable, but are you ready to spend another INR 400 to buy your headset in order to have a good clarity in your conversations?

No doubt the above 2 aspects are the key requirements in any handset. So pls think twice before you choose to buy a 1110 (of course this model is outdated now) / 1110i ! Because the other characteristics that are good enough in these 2 models like good battery, compactness & polyphonic ringing tones etc. are available in most of the other models of various brands.
