Great if you just need a phone that works :)

I have had over 7 different cell phones follow me around in my pocket since 1999 and access to them since 1997. The 5110 was one of these. At that point in time is was one of the sweetest phones available. These days however, I wouldn’t suggest purchasing one unless you only need a phone to send a quick message now and again and make a phone call. This phone is definatly for anyone who only occaisionally needs a phone, without all the features available in today’s cell phones.

Basic Information

The Nokia 5110 is a Single Band GSM 900 phone. This means that you can use it anywhere that supports a GSM 900 MHz network. The downside here is that you may not get the best available coverage as you can’t use the GSM 1800 Mhz networks. The reason I say this phone is for people that only need a basic cell phone is because that’s all it is. It’s only functions that really stand out are the Calculator, which is on nearly every phone these days, and the 3 games, which also come standard with many phones.

Battery Life

The standard battery supplied with the Nokia 5110 is one of the best batteries I have seen. When used rarely (like in the scenario above) it can last up to 9 days without charging. Extended life batteries are also available, which makes this phone EXCELLENT for anyone that leaves their charger behind for a few days.

Call Quality

Although the Nokia 5110 is an old phone, I have always been impressed with the quality of voice calls. It is extremely good, equals that of a 3310 or 6210. It supports Half Rate, Full Rate and Enhanced Full Rate Voice Codecs, provided your network/carrier also supports them.

Design

This phone has been manufactured well. It takes a damn few good kicks and still keeps on going. It isn’t too heavy and feels good in the palm of your hand.

Accessories

A full range of accessories are available for the 5110. Data cables, support for fax/data, handsfree, car kits, leather cases and the like.

The phone is good, but doesn’t really suit today’s standards. If you aren’t looking for all the juicy extras and just need a nice cheap phone, the 5110 is a great choice.
