Almost 2 years back I was badly looking for a Smart phone of budget around 15K.So had round of my choice to Imate K Jam.One of my friend had it and I got a chance to use it for a month.I was never satisfied with its performance.Every now and then the phone used to hang, Well we can say it surely fit the name JAMming.
So had to wait for few months as I came to know that Nokia is going to launch a sleek and slim Smart phone i.e E series.I was so eager that I had to import it in Oct 2006 as it was not that easily available in India during that period.At first glance I fell in love with it.I have been using it since then i.e around 1.1/2 years and I am really satisfied with its performance.
You can always find the technical details from nokia.com so let me share my experiences with this smart phone.
*Pros:
*Dimensions- The phone is so sleek & slim despite being a Smart phone .I couldn’t find any other smart phone of this dimensions.
OS - The OS never hung till now.I am really happy at this part.
Battery - Battery life is good .If fully charged once then lasts for atleast 3 days at nominal use of around 3 Hrs per day usage.
Sound Quality - The speaker’s sound quality is good and crystal clear.
Camera - This phone has a inbuilt 1.3 MP camera is good enough if you are not a serious
photographer like me :) .So never bothered about it as that was not my sole purpose.
KeyPads - I have read reviews where they have come down heavily on the key pad.Well I love the keypad.It has been put to brutal tests by me but till now I didn’t face an inch of problems in it.
Others - This phone has inbuilt applications like Flash player, Real player, PDF reader, Winzip, Office etc.. good enough for day to day usages.Has inbuilt 70MB
memory.Additionally I am using a 1 GB MicroSD card which is good enough for my usage. The phone’s casing is good.I have dropped this phone quite a number of times but
its performance has not detoriarated even by an inch.
Cons:
As you know nothing in this world is perfect including this phone .It has its own cons.To name a few ,
W/LAN - I am badly missing it.I don’t know why didn’t Nokia take the risk of adding W/LAN to this
gadget.
FM Phone - Well again I wonder why did Nokia couldn’t add this to E50 instead it had to launch E51
including both W/LAN and FM.
Fonts - The pre loaded Fonts of this phone is small which some times can make u look things
twice for details.I heard there is an upgrade for it but yet to go for it.
Alarm - Wake up alarm had to be set daily. I wonder why it cannot be set weekly .May be eating up
more memory :). Jokes apart.This feature is readily available in all basic phones but I do
not why Nokia didn’t mind to add this feature in this wonderful gadget .or may be I am
missing it .Well didn’t bothered much about it.
Had all these cons had been converted to Pros then there is no need to upgrae your phone for atleast next 3-4 yrs.
So if any body is interested in this Phone then surely go for it.But if you are interested in this phone along with W/LAN and FM ( I am sure it is a must ) then go for its brother E51 which as both the features.
