Then & now

We had been to this restaurant about a year agao and found it exquiste tase and prompt service.


Again about two weeks back we decided to go over. We found the ambience same - but everything else different.


The Pricing


The prices had been rased obscenely exhorbitant - just to give you an idea, a ’’phulka’’ or ’’roti’’ will cost Rs.100/- as much as any other bread! Whoever did the costing must have decided to be pretty aritrary and does not know a thing about ’’costing’’ or ’’pricing’’ - gigne that this belongs to a 5-star category of Hotels - the reputed Tata Group Taj Group of Hotels I was amazed.


The Taste


We ordered, all the same hoping that the taste will more than compensate. It was disappointing to say the least. They had probably thought we are from Europe or European Indians!? - whose taste buds cannot stand spice! The food was absolutely bland and distaseful!


The Service


Well dispite the food coming extra-ordinarily delayed (making us extremely hungry) it did not taste well! Normally when you are hungry you seem to relish even badly prepared food. In this case I imagine what would have been the case had we not been hungry enough - because of the poor and delayed service!


The Bill Finally!!!


It took a while and three promptings before the bill was finally produced! BUT THE STORY IS NOT YET OVER! Imagine, the bill had an Item Naan Quantity 1 Price Rs.500! Whew! Normally if the bill was reasonable I do not check it and I have an approximate idea. Here I found something amiss and when I checked it I found Naan (already highly priced at Rs.100) being billed as Rs.500!!!


On pointing out an excuse was made about some system error and new staff and all that came to their mind! Another half hour later the bill was settled!


NOW THE STORY IS NOT OVER YET!


Guests at the next table!!


While all this was hapening, the guests at the next table who had finished their food much earlier were still sitting there - GUESS WHAT! - they too had a wrong bill and were waiting for it to be corrected!


I hope it was just one bad night out there and a coincidence - not a routine!


Lesson!


Imagine if you wnet to this place with a large team of 10-12 people - you will be robbed to death!


Sorry to write about a bad experience - just to caution members - when you do visit such please please be cautious and double check your bills!
