I love you Mahtob, I wont leave you here in a land occupied, governed and controlled by men to suffer....well these were the words of Betty Mahmoody an American married to an iranian doctor little did she know that she and her daughter were about to leave for a vacation permanently....Well fantastically written novel or rather penned in a great way a journey of Betty from US OF A to IRAN, IRAN - A place where women are treated similarly to our slaves.Well the story goes like this in brief,
Betty Mahmoody marries a handsome, intelligent Iranian doctor, she had no preminition of where it would lead her. The couple settles in the United States, with a beautiful daughter Mahtob. When her husband Moody is fired from his job, he does not tell her. Instead, he takes his wife and his daughter on a vacation to Iran so that he can meet up with his family; whom he has not seen for decades.
Well... make that a supposed vacation. He did not tell his wife and his daughter about the discrimination that women received, about the superiority of men, and the hatred of Americans. He did not tell his wife and his daughter about the poor sanitation of his relatives, and about the inbreeding and production of stunted children within the family. But most importantly; he did not tell his his wife and his daughter that they would not go back to America, and that they would never see their home again.Being a woman with determination, Betty allows he strength to be her ally in fighting her way out of a hostile world - a country cruel to Americans; where children recite at school Death to Amrika; and a country where women are regarded as inferior.Fighting against conventional Iranian beliefs and the pressure positioned by her husband, Betty stands strong and decides that sell give anything to be back home in America where she was free to be who she was.But not without her daughter.Well the journey penned by betty is Amazing and you will even find a bit of funny things that Ameh Bozorg or a few of iranians do, The hard times of betty in Iran was something we all can experience from the book but the actual pain that she had suffered is known and felt only by her, a great book of love, power, motherhood and courage in simple language . I will recommend you and assure you that you will enjoy reading every page of this great book. It is the best book I have ever read.
