These guys called me today in the morning around 10 a.m. saying that I have been selected for a Rs. 50, 000/- prize at Surat Diamonds Online Jewelry Store. But that I need to make some purchase in order to be eligible for the same. Initially they made offers of Samsung LCD for Rs. 17, 000/- and other such items. I asked whether the cost of the purchase has anything to do with the prize. They said that it does not matter. So I ask for their website to search for the other goods on offer. They ask me to go to https://bagittoday.com and search for the items. They say they will call me at 4 p.m. This call lasted 20 minutes.
So I search for something within my means and identify some 3 - 4 items. When they call me at 4 p.m. I ask them for those items. For all those items they kept telling me that the item is not in stock. Then I asked them whether there is any minimum purchase that I need to make. Thats when they say that I need to purchase for a minimum of Rs. 15, 000/-(Yes, fifteen thousand) to be eligible for the prize. This call lasted another 20 minutes. So total 40 minutes gone in addition to the time I spent on the web searching for the right item to buy.
Now I went and searched for items at Surat Diamonds Online Store. I found a necklace for about Rs. 51, 000/-. It had about 12.5 grams of 18K gold which is about Rs. 17, 000/-. Then it had about 32 "VS" quality diamond pieces of about 0.029 carats each which taken together in todays market price would have been about Rs. 10, 000 to Rs. 12, , 000/-. So the total price is about 30, 000 only. Add some 10% making charge and 5% wastage and 12.5% VAT. It would be about Rs. 39.000/-. If you go to Tanishq you will probably get the same piece for about Rs. 40-42K with the Tanishq brand name and guarantee. So the prize is also not worth Rs. 50, 000/-.
Effectively, they are making you buy some things in the garb of giving you prizes. This is what I detest. If they simply claim that for Rs. 15, 000/- you get things worth Rs. X, at least they are being straight. But they first announce a prize and then say that you need to buy some stuff in order to be eligible for the prize. To top it all the prize is not worth as much as they make it out to be.
So dont get conned by these folks and dont accept calls from them. The calls typically come from Delhi and their usual numbers are as follows:
011-3081-8200
011-3081-8600
011-4956-0000
Hope this helps.
