My fascination for hi-tech super-duper turning-people-green-with-envy electronic devices goes back a long way. The first to enter my collection was a Vid Cam, then a DigiCam, then a Palm Vx and recently, MP3 Player.
Why I bought a Palm Handheld, I am still trying to figure that one out and will let you know as soon as I do. I bought it 1.5 years back mainly because I thought that owning a Palm was ’way cool man’, however, soon I was to regret the decision. There is nothing wrong with the handheld, or its functioning, it works like its supposed to - a highly overrated digital diary. However, you’re really left wondering, why in the world didn’t I just go ahead and buy a 2, 000 bucks worth digidiary and bought a 20, 000 bucks worth Palm instead?
It has limited usability. When I bought it, we didn’t have the MP3 playing, colored, even higherly (i know thats not a word - duh!) overrated options, so Palm seemed like a dream come true. I mean look - what do you expect it to do for you, store addresses? Get an address book. Games? You have a mobile phone, dont you? Type mails on the move? You’re actually gonna spend another 6, 500/- to buy the Palm keyboard - u crazy or what!
The one thing I hate about the handheld, I mean hate beyond belief, is the screen. It is so overly-sensitive. Even after spending 10 minutes making sure, not an atom of dust is on the screen, just as you use the stylus - there goes a scratch. And since I am very particular about no scratches, it is horrifying for me. My friend gave me her autograph on my palm and when she returned it to me, the screen had it embedded in it. Since that day, I have not lended my Palm to anyone. And I still have the autographed screen!
I am not discouraging you to buy it, I am just warning you. Spending all that moolah and not getting your worth is just kinda irritating. However, for some people Palm Vx might be a dream come true - its all about your usability.
So in conclusion, I would advice you to consider other options before you actually fish all that money to buy Palm Vx. Really, I mean it!
