PARINEETA....The burden of expectation.A producer whose last movie was
a super hit and was even copied by Hollywood(Whew that’s a welcome change), an admaker who is very successful in ad films, 2 most saleable heroes in Bollywood and a story which has been told sevral times already.But, PARINEETA more or less lives up to the expectations.
The story was originally written by SaratChandra Chattopadhay who has also the author of Devdas.His stories generally project women in the central and strong role and Parineeta is no different.The main asset of this movie is its strong storyline.
Lolita(Vidya Balan) is an orphan raised by her uncle.She shares a special bond with Shekhar(Saif Ali Khan) who lives in the neighbouring house.Both of them love each other deeply since childhood but cant confess it openly.Here enters Girish(Sanjay Dutt) who is a steel tycoon who lives in London.The relations between Lolita and Shekhar become strainedn partly due to Girish and also by Shekhar’s
scheming father Naveen Rai(Sabyasachi Chakraborty).What twists fate has in store for Lolita ????Whom will she marry???.watch the movie !!!
The performance of Saif Ali Khan is one of the best in his career.He
is getting better with each film and I wont b surprised if he has surpassed this performance in his next movie.
The main character of Lolita was enacted very well by newcomer Vidya Balan whom we have seen in many ad films and music videos.The one that instantly comes to mind is ’’AAKHIR BANA DIYA MECHANIC SE ENGINEER’’ tag line.She has acted very well and is no surprise that Vidhu Vinod Chopra has again chosen her for his next directorial venture ’Yagna’.
Sanjay Dutt in a relatively shorter role was good .A special mention for the performance of Sabyasachi Chakraborty(Shekhar’s dad) and Raima Sen.
The music of this movie by Shantanu Moitra is exceptional.The tracks
’’Piyu Bole’’, ’’Kasto Maza’’, ’’Kaisi Paheli’’, ’’Raat Andheri’’ r great whose impact is more after having seen the movie.
- ’’Kaisi Paheli’’ is a supposed item no. by Rekha but is very diff. from 2day’s item no.’s.Its very dignified and its popularity can be gauged by the fact that the audience was whistling 4 a lady who is 50 years of age.Now that’s rare!!!!!Mindblowing Rekha .
The sets look authentic and much effort has gone in 2 achieving the 60’s Kolkata look.The cinematography is also xcelent .
This movie was premiered at IIFA awards and was compared 2 Lagaan.Personally I think thats a bit 2 much but yes Parineeta is one movie that comes relatively close 2 matching Lagaan in recent times.
The only drawback in Parineeta is it is a little slow in the first half.There were 3 songs in the first 20 minutes.Can u believe that!!
All in all a nice classy family movie and a cut above the rest.
