Philips - the customer service from hell

At one point in time, Philips used to make solid products that did not fail. And, by ill chance, if it did, you could always depend on their customer service. That was THEN (the 90’s?). This is NOW, when Philips sells shoddy quality products and couldn’t care less about your experience after you have bought their product (dealer commissions must be 30%) - their’s is truly the customer service from hell.


First Example:


I bought a Philips 29’’ Digital TV for mucho bucks. Guess what??? The TV dies on me within 1 mth of purchase. No service from Philips despite repeated calls to them. After finally threatening to physically throw the TV at their heads, they agreed to replace it - and this is the service for one of their top of the line products. But, this still ended on a happy note - but, as the TV is now out of warranty, I have my fingers and toes crossed.


Second Example:


Despite this pathetic example of services, I still decide to be a loyal Philips customer. I know, I must be a sucker for punishment. So, I go and buy a Philips DVD player - the above mentioned 625K. This works fine until in the 10th month, the remote dies on me.


After calling their service centre for some 50 times (they have 3 tel nos, which are perenially engaged or they put you on hold for 20 mins at a time), they send a technician over. He looks the remote over and says that this has died and we will give you a new replacement in 2-3 working days.


It’s 4.5 MONTHS and I am still waiting. This is despite having escalated the complaint to their regional service centre, and speaking to the ’’Manger’’ in charge of customer satisfaction. Philips must have appointed the most useless person in their company as the manager in charge of customer satisfaction, since the latter is now an extra on all their products.


Clearly, this is a different company to the one we knew in the nineties. Do tell everyone you know - PHILIPS SUCKS and BIG TIME. Buy a Sony or buy a korean product, but don’t even think of buying a Philips. If you run out of luck, you will have to deal with the customer service from HELL.
