Best buy for home use

Why did you buy this product?

I had a old Sony VCR (15 years). Its only usage these days was to see old family videos. I wanted to dispose this off. In March 2004, Girias, Bangalore had VCR to DVD exchange scheme. The dealer recommended this player. After researching about this model, I gave my Sony VCR & bought this cool player.

Describe your experiences using this product.

What do you like and dislike about this product?

Likes:

  • Audio: Its gives 5.1 audio out and Coaxial audio out for amplifiers. (beware of DVD players that give just 2 channel analog out - you can’t have the real DVD experience with that)

  • It has S-Video out and Component video out - good quality video for projection TV/ LCD projectors, along with standard RCA.

  • Plays ACD/VCD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, SVCD, MP3 CD, JPEG Photo CD.

  • Progressive scanning. Therefore, and sharper picture, higher picture resolution (This feature is found only in high-end DVD players)

Wish List (I don’t want to call this section Dislikes):

  • Better Remote design - Though it has all features, its not ergonomic. Also, its not back-lit and so its quite difficult to find buttons in the dark.

  • No MP3 ID3 tag support - so MP3 songs in MP3 CD appear as numbers, instead of song names

  • No Divx supports - this player can’t play AVI & Divx files. DVD/DivX combo players are coming out recently. If I buy a DVD player now, I’ll go for one that plays divx.

Who should buy this product?

  • Anyone who wants an excellent DVD player, without MP3 tag support & Divx playback.
