The prestigious prasads multiples was built in Hyderabad with the initiative of the then chief minister Mr Chandra Babu Naidu as a tourist attraction as part of promoting A P Tourism. Things have a lot changed these days.
As I told, for so called promoting Tourism, the land at the heart of the city was awarded to the management for a paltry not just to make money by screening movies but also by letting the space to merchant establishments for a premium!
Earlier, the theater used to charge Rs 60/- per ticket. With the Govt of AP migrating the tax slab, the theaters across Hyderabad reduced its rates from almost Rs 50 to Rs 35 but for prasads! they increased it from Rs 60 to Rs 100 for reasons known to them. On the other hand PVR Cinemas which was not provided with any such sops from the Govt also charges the same. What is the general public gaining out of the public property enjoyed by the Theater?
Its mandatory to provide Drinking water to the movie goers by theater management which is followed by all the theaters including PVR Cinemas but Prasads never believes in such responsibilities. We have to end up shelling Rs 20/- to quench our thirst.
Not just this, we have top pay parking fees for parking our vehicles in our own public land PVR doesnt charge for parking! I am not in favor of PVR in particular but just comparing with it as it is the only other multiplex in prime locality in Hyderabad. At the end of the day, you spend atleast Rs 30(its not the matter of a meagre Rs 30 but about the values and ethics) additionally at Prasad when compared to PVR(Rs20 being cost of water bottle and Rs10 being the parking fees).
I guess its high time the Government reacts to the lapses of the theater in making money at the cost of the public and for acting irresponsibly in providing the basic facilities to the viewers.
