The Title ‘Priyasakhi’ represents the heroine Priya (Actress Sadha who co-starred with Vikram in Anniyan) and the hero Sakhi (the Chocolate Actor Madhavan). The efforts of the Priyasakhi team in carving such an interesting screen-play with a very simple storyline is certainly appreciable ! The college gals’ dream boy has been given an opportunity to act here and as for Sadha, I swear you wouldn’t believe that this is the same girl who appeared in ‘Jeyam’ with Ravi. Sadha has rendered an excellent performance & it is unbelievable that she is fairly a new entry into the field !
Story
Sakhi (Madhavan) meets Priya (Sadha) during one of his official visits to Dubai and charms her. While Madhavan belongs to a very middle class joint family comprising of his mother, brother & family and a sister, Sadha belongs to a very rich family. They fall in love with each other and decides to get married.
Sadha somehow convinces her mother Aishwarya about her love affair and gets married to Madhavan and goes to live with his joint family. Almost everything about the inlaws’ house is strange to her including their dressing style, food habits etc. and very soon she starts feeling that Madhavan gives more weightage to his mother than her & the Ego problem between them starts by then. Being frustrated by the continued fights between she & her husband, Sadha decides to abort her foetus as wickedly advised by her mother. Also, she demands Madhavan for a divorce as she could no more tolerate the traditional outlook of his family members. Madhavan agrees for a divorce in the Court and gets an order that Sadha should deliver his baby and that he would be with her in her house until her delivery.
The remaining part of the story is very interesting and deals with how gradually he makes Sadha change her mind against the divorce.
What I like about Priyasakhi :
Characters
• Almost all the artists have rendered a very natural acting. Aishwarya as Sadha’s mother has lived as a perfect high class lady and she shines as a senior artist whenever she tries to hypnotize her daughter against Madhavan. Prathab Poethon comes as Sadha’s father, who is a typical submissive husband and indirectly supports his son-in-law whenever possible. Although Kovai Sarala has not been utilized in the film in a very effective way, her scenes also make us smile. Thank God, she hasn’t done much of an over-acting ! Actress Seetha comes as the doctor who delivers Sadha’s baby does a good job though she appears only 10 minutes. As a whole, all the characters have done their best and the performance of the entire Priyasakhi team is certainly worth an applause.
Sadha
• Sadha in this film is surely worth a praise. She is perfectly suitable for the character of a very rich girl. The scenes in which her ego is evoked when her husband gives her necklace to his sister, in the one when she is completely disappointed by her husband sleeping on the midnight of her birthday without wishing her first and especially in the restaurant scene, when gets to know that Madhavan brings her to the restaurant only as advised by his mother etc… Sadha shines. Whenever her mother advises her against her husband Madhavan, her expressions revealing her dilemma is certainly wonderful ! There are lot more to mention about her good performance, but I stop here.
Music
• Music, I would say, is the backbone of Priyasakhi. Bharadwaj has done a pretty good job and although only a few songs are melodious / enjoyable, the background music almost throughout the movie has been flawlessly composed. At many scenes, the background music speaks by itself.
Director
• We could feel the presence of the Director K.S. Adhiyamaan behind the successful performance of the artists. He has considered a very decent story and the way he proceeds with the story, gradually revealing the ego-struggles between the couple which is excessively insinuated by the heroine’s mother are quite natural, it’s like watching a next door middle class couple’s fights. I am sure the Director gets an additional feather to his cap with Priyasakhi !
A Few Pros
• The Director has included scenes like Sadha’s mother telling her daughter that why she must worry so much about a very simple thing like an abortion while Kamala Aunty has done it seven times so far etc… leaves us wondering if, in reality, is the high class society really hardly bothered about our cultural ethics … I think this is an unnecessary inclusion.
• Sadha suddenly meeting Madhavan in Dubai and accepting the proposal of this stranger whom she had known for just 2 days, is quite out of focus !
Do watch this family entertainer & you are sure to like it…….
