After a long gap R.Madhavan returns to Tamil Cinema with K.S. Adiyamaans “Priyasakhi”. Madhavans last venture in Tamil was “Aethiree”, which did average business at the box office. Here he co-stars again with Sada for this movie. Adhiyamaan comes up with a family drama this time. The movie first made in Hindi with Salman and Shilpa titled “shaadi karke phas gaya” is yet to see daylight due to various hiccups.

Lets discuss the plot of the story. Santhana Krishnan aka Sakhi (Madhavan) breeds form a typical close knit family. For him his family is his world and knows the importance of love and affection for leading a happy peaceful life. Priya (sada) on the other hand is born and brought up with a silver spoon. She is brought up in a very modern way and her culture is more westernized. Her Mom (aishwarya) has major influence on her, who gives more importance to materialistic pleasure and very particular about her status. Priyas father (pratap pothan) is just a puppet at the hands of his wife. So she is brought up in a very carefree manner and has a modernistic outlook towards life. As expected they both fall in love and get married soon much to the disapproval of Priya’s mom. As days goes by difference of opinion arises between them in mostly all the issues. The biggest one being when, Praia gets to know that she has become pregnant and wants to abort it. But not knowing this Sakhi and his family people feel over whelmed and happy. But they get shocked when they hear Priya’s hesitance in having a baby. Sakhi gets furious and warns Priya that he wants the bay at any cost. More drama happens when Priyas mom plans for a secret abortion. Adding fury to the fuel one more incident happens. Priya falls for Sakhi earlier because he portrays himself to have the same interests and tastes of Priya. But much to her dismay she discovers later that he had caught hold of her personal diary accidently and discovers her personal interests. So he pretends to be in the same wavelength of hers and impresses her. Hence this leads to a great rift between the two and Priya decides to file a divorce against Sakhi. But the problem is that she is carrying Sakhis child. So the judge gives the judgment that Priya should deliver the baby safely and hand it over to Sakhi before the divorce. And for protection against Priyas mom, she allows Sakhi, a lady constable (Kovai Sarala) and a nurse to stay at Priyas place till the delivery of the child. What happens, after this should be seen on the silver screen.

Its Madhavans movie all the way. He is back after a long time and he is as smart and good looking as ever. He carries the character very well and has a great screen presence. Acting the way, comes very natural to him. He is very good at the initial scenes where he flirts around with Sada and emotional ones in the end too. Sada comes up with a decent performance doing full justice to her character. She could have concentrated more on her make up, hair color (which doesn’t suit her at all) and the choice of costumes (hell a lot of tops on pink base, which are too jarring to the eyes). The chemistry between the pair is fine.

Other notable performances come from aishwarya, prathap pothan and Ramesh Kanna (as Madhavans brother). Prathap Pothan and Ramesh Kanna are part of the lighter parts of the movie. Aishwarya as Sadas mom is very apt as a very Hep and modern mom. Kovai Sarala as the lady constable is noting short of irritation, her very loud decibel and caricature kind of acting sadly refuses to create laughter among the audience. The movie drags a bit in this period of the movie.

The direction is by Adhiyamaan is above average. There are a few logic hindrances in the script.

A girl who is brought up in such a high-class society will be obviously aware of the fact that, she would conceive soon or later after marriage. It is funny to see that the character never predicted this before marriage. The change in mind of the heroine towards the later part of the movie happens to quickly, with just a couple of advice from her father, very interesting. Lastly how does the heroine fail to notice the fact that her bag gets exchanges, which led the hero to read her personal diary.hmmmmm. There are a few more too, guess the director overlooked these loop holes.

The music is very mediocre. Baharatwaj could have come up with a better effort. Most of the songs remind you of some older versions and are below average. The title number is the better one out of the lot. The background score is very poor, especially in the romantic scenes.

The movie on the whole is just average. It has good performances from the lead pair. It has a decent plot but doesn’t have an interesting screenplay to match it. The music is also media core. The director slips away with logic at a few instances. The comedy track with kovai sarala is also has a dragging effect.

At a period where huge budget movies and split personality is ruling the kollywood industry we can appreciate the team of Priyasakhi for giving a clean family entertainer sans violence, sans action, sans over dose of graphics, sans skin show and sans double meaning dialogues.

Piracy is a crime. Please dont support it directly or indirectly. Please watch the movies at the theatres. Your entertainment should not be at the cost of others life and food.
