Movies, Masti and Magic is what the young generation believes in now-a-days.
When all that is concerned is career, responsibility, living-a-life et al, when there
is no real war from the external enemy, here comes a movie which tries to
awaken the generation to fight the real enemies that are within the country ,
in doing that the feeling of patriotism is induced by taking examples of the
freedom fighters and correlating their fight against the imperial rule with the
fight against the rule by our corrupt politicians.

Dil Jeet(DJ) and company, a group of five friends are cool in college boozing and
betting without a goal of their own.DJ feels that people become lost in the world,
once they take up jobs and responsibilities and hence remains in the college
having fun and dominating most of his friends.This makes him feel that he has
his own identity whichwould easily be lost once he pursues the goals set by
the society.
Contrary to these people is Laxman Pandey, who is a member of a political outfit
and has his own goals pre-set to become a GOOD politician and set examples
for others.He is against all booze and the western influence on the youth.
Soniya a member of DJ’s bunch of friends has an acquaintance from London ,
Sue who wishes to make a documentary on the Indian freedom fighters.Sue with
the help of Sonia convinces the bunch of friends to be a part of the documentary.
What ensues is the making of a documentary with DJs friends, Laxman Pandey
and Sue.Everything goes fine, the characters slowly associate themselves with
the Freedom fighter role they are playing.Besides having fun, all of the friends
start to think on the state of the country and begin to hate themselves after
realizing their helplessness in contributing something for the benefit of the nation/Society.
At this juncture, happens the sudden demise of Soniya’s boyfriend Ajay.Ajay was onboard a MiG when he meets his death.The cause of his death owing to cheap
spare parts used by the ministry gives the friends a goal to fight against corrupt politicians.It gives them a sense of awakening.
What path these friends take to fight the corrupt people who contributed to Ajay’s death is the rest of the story.
An Analysis:
As a whole the movie disappoints in the end.In the interval, one comes out with
the feeling that this is going to be a great movie.The first half is full of fun with
very good anecdotes and catchy lines here and there.The after-interval should
have been much better, and the climax is a complete letdown.
Usage of the MiG crash as the basis for the whole movie or indicating the MiG
crashes case as an epitome of the corruption in the Government/politics is what
lets the movie down.A better theme with generic incidences could have been more than welcome.Even the usage of Radio in the climax scene was a poor decision
what with umpteen number 24 hour news televisions.
In acting, I felt Soha Ali Khan was very good, Aamir(DJ) and party are apt.
Most of the funny lines are attributed to Aamir and Sharman(Sukhi).
Siddharth as Karan is a revelation, he does not speak much but portrays his
frustration and helplessness with ease.Mohan Agashe as a corrupt politician and Anupam Kher as Karan’s father are okay but they dont have any subtle roles in
terms of the time on screen.Atul Kulkarni as Laxman Pandey is good as usual
and Alice as Sue too has done a good job, sometimes she was made to act like an Indian lady(how?).
TO CONCLUDE:
One has to watch this movie for it is really good in parts and Rakeysh Mehra,
though falters a bit in the narration and climax, has a very good concept to tell.
But this is not the awakening of Aamir Khan I expected.
This movie will be forgot as yet another movie and it pinches you but lacks
the Punch.For those who wish to awaken will do so on their own, for those are
asleep can sleep well!!!.
It tries to be very effective on the youth of the nation, but fails.
