As a young girl, I devoured every piece of reading material in my home. I loved to read and develop my vocabulary. The magazine that was a staple in my home was Readers Digest. We also subscribed to TIME magazine and LIFE magazine. But, Readers Digest was by far, my favorite!
What I liked the most about Readers Digest was the vocabulary section where I could test my knowledge and then see what words I needed to study. I definitely recommend giving yourself this test and using the missed words in your daily life. Vocabulary building is something that we need to teach our children and what better way than to use a fun, fact-filled magazine like Readers Digest.
Another of my favorite sections in this condensed magazine was the Drama in Real Life stories. I could hardly wait to read about some heroic, edge-of-your-seat adventure told by the person who survived the drama!
Towards More Picturesque Speech was another favorite of mine. Of course the Humor in Uniform sections kept me laughing and entertained. My two brothers were military men, so this section held added appeal for me.
This little magazine went with me wherever I went, small enough to fit easily in my purse or school bag. As an adult, I still am an avid reader of Readers Digest. This magazine is amongst my all time favorite reading material. Perhaps, someday, I will submit my own contributions and hope for an article to be published!
If you love to read a variety of material, dramatic, humorous, interesting, medical, fact or fiction, I highly recommend checking out Readers Digest magazine.
