'Rekha, thy name is pain'

Wait!! Even before you take the slightest hint that the pain meant here has anything to do with an unpleasant physical feeling that we all wish we could do without then, listen to the complete statement that the enigmatic Rekha has herself made when asked if there has been any pain she has been carrying within. She said, ’’Rekha, thy name is pain. Pain is my biggest teacher.’’

To add to this she sums up the role of pain in her life from the famous line from Anarkali-

Kaaton ko murjhane ka khauf nahi hota

(Thorns never fear withering)

For those who’ve just muttered, ’’Who’s Rekha?’’, let me try and introduce her to you. However, this is one task that I’m sure I could never succeed at, not in this life at least. Rekha is like a rose bud. Try unfolding one and you’ll realize what I mean. That small sweet bud in ur hand is simple yet, so complex to unfold coz you never know which petal unravels first.

Rekha’s Origin:

Rekha is the daughter of the well-known south film superstar Gemini Ganeshan and actress Pushpavalli. But, that’s not her identity. In spite of the fact that both her parents were film stars and hence film studio was like second home for her, Rekha is a legend in herself, on her own credentials. She started acting at the early age of 13 and now when she has turned a gracious 50, as the actress gets ready to grace the silver screen with yet another film, she tells us in her signatory mysterious style, ’’It is just the beginning for me.

The curtains are not going to come down. My life is still raw stock. The magic is yet to begin.’’

That’s Rekha for you. A perfect paradigm of ’’young at heart...forever!’’ She is a person who has defied the biological clock and one look at her today feels as if time froze on her youth way back and her mystical beauty continues to enthrall one and all, over all generations.

Professional Graph:

Her first Film:Sawan Bhadon done with Navin Nischol, was released in 1970. An insignificant entity throughout the 70’s, Rekha made her mark in early 1980s not just with a big banner film but with an overall transformation both physically and mentally, from a plump, darkish, scandalized actress into an athletic, both intellectually and physically stunning woman.

Remember, Pain was her teacher and she had more than a normal share to the extent of having death do her beloved ones apart. I do not want to mention her scandals here because the paparazzi has done enough of that.

#Films:Sawan Bhadon, Do Anjaane, Aalap, Muqaddar ka Sikander, Ghar, Silsila, Umrao Jaan, Khoon Bhari Maang, Ijaazat, Phool Bane Angare, and many more.

Watch her in Khoon Bhari Maang where that transformation from an ugly duckling into a sensual swan is real-to-reel life depicted.

Also, her fun-filled, child-woman performance in Khoobsurat is admirable.

Then, there’s Umrao Jaan, Utsav, Silsila and many more where her beauty, in the real sense of the term is framed for eternity.

In Ijaazat, I adored the role she played as a wife who tries to balance her life with her husband and his past affair. The emotions have been so beautifully expressed and well, the film was in itself a masterpiece with Naseerudin Shah as the male lead.

Madame Re at a glance:

#Sun sign: Libra (10/10/1954)

#Favourite Songs:

’Self Control; by Laura Branigan;

’Pyar kiya to darna kya’;

’Allah tero naam’

’I am a woman in love’ by Barbara Streisand;

’Right here waiting for you’ by Richard Marx

’I said I love you but I lied’ by Michael Bolton;

’ I’ll be watching you’ by Sting;

’Everything I do’ by Bryan Adams;

’I will always Love you’ by Whitney Houston and

’I wanna run to you’ by Whitney Houston

I mentioned this here coz I was very excited to know that she likes two of my favourite songs. hehe.. ok, jokes apart, I also believe that the songs we like do tell to an extent of our heart & mind’s state.

Rekha’s Make-up Attitude is very Dramatic except a few films like Aastha where she wore a no-pancake look. Otherwise a slight observation on Madame Re’s make-up style tells us that she focuses on both the eyes and lips. Her style is heavy eye make-up and strong lips. With Rekha, it’s lots of liner and leaving the house without mascara is tantamount to leaving the house naked! She has set many a trend over more than a decade when it comes to experimenting with colors. She most likely has enough make-up to open a small shop.

My thoughts on Rekha:

I adore this person for her ability to talk to herself and to keep pace with Life. Rekha has ruled the roost for more than a decade and she still rules some hearts, not just for her majestic persona, sensual voice but also for her the aura she holds. I’d like to remember Rekha for her positive side that teaches us to befriend pain, be the best friend to self and to be glad just to be ALIVE. Now, here’s one woman who holds a divine beauty, empowering persona, grace, versatility, humbleness, faith, a silent strength who with her mere existence tells us that, ’’No matter what, Life goes on!’’ that too, in Rekha’s case, it can be rightly added ’’on her own set of rules’’.

I have tried to write on this great personality to the best of my abilities. However, I request you to kindly forgive me for my ignorance and inability to do complete justice to this review. I feel overpowered by this personality and believe that I’m very meagre a person to have done justice to this review. Hence, I request each one of you reading this revu to correct me where I’ve faltered.

I wish to write this review with each one of you so, let’s continue it in the comments section. This time...the pen’s yours...err.. I meant the words are yours! :)
