Cell phone users r indeed in a conundrum today.Reliance did create countrywide frenzy after the launch of CDMA services....But, a more closer look @ reliance n u will find at least a thousand strings attached...!!!
Catch # 1
Reliance will be giving you a free handset (Digital handset...I don’t know if company knows or not but nowadays all mobile handsets are digital...at least as per my knowledge)Handset is worth Rs. 10, 500 similar to that available in GSM network model Samsung R-220 to the club members who will be paying 3000 (non refundable). (Read the contract) you have been given this handset for free but still its property of Reliance . If you terminate the service at anytime, inspite of the handset being given to you for free, you will have to return the handset to company & your 3000 is still non refundable. So does this mean that Rs 3000 is the rent of handset?
Catch # 2
Secondly in this scheme company will be giving handset similar to Samsung R-220...thats a normal mobile phone with black n grey LCD (monochrome) display. So it means it is not a colour display . However, if u want to enjoy NEWS, MOVIE CLIPS etc. on your handset then you need to spend Rs. 15, 000 more for a handset with colour display .
Catch # 3
Reliance will be giving 400 minutes of out going calls & unlimited incoming calls. Yeah..but these 400 minutes of out going calls will be allowed only to reliance to reliance network. For calls to all other networks you need to pay extra they are not included in those 400 minutes . So this means 400 minutes given to you per month is only for calling from a reliance to reliance anywhere in INDIA. For all other calls you need to pay extra as per rates of fixed lines of BSNL/MTNL.
And for calls from reliance to reliance after 400 free minutes will also be charged at rates of BSNL/MTNL. i.e. for a call from Mumbai to Delhi where earlier you were charged 40 paise per minute, after your 1st 400 minutes you will be charged about approx. 9 rupees per minute. This will be even for a call from Reliance to Reliance
Catch # 4
FREE FREE FREE Services like internet, call divert, NEWS channels, etc are free for just 1st 3 months ..upto 31 march. But if u use internet for 5 minutes then, 5 minutes from your 400 free minutes will be deducted. Same goes for NEWS channels, Entertainment etc.Call waiting, call diverting, Caller line identification etc. will also be charged extra .That means..even after paying @ 600/month ...u might have to shell out more money for other services..depending on your usage...!!!
Also, any cellular company takes some time to make its network entirely fool proof n functional.Companies like BPL, ORANGE etc. have learnt from their mistakes in the past..n thats how today after nearly 5 - 6 years..they have been able to provide reasonably good services now...reward of mistakes is experience...u see !
So, moral of the story is that nothing is free, no service is free.Frankly speaking it’s like a vicious circle...’’Abhimanyu Chakraviyu Mai Fass Gaya Hai Tu ’’.............. At least for 3 years...!!!
So....give a second thought before u actually change yr cellphone...n start digging your own grave...’coz its always better to be safe than sorry !!!
