The Sansui micro 1575
HI there, this is my first attempt to review a music system. I am no expert and the following is a layperson’s (me) thoughts and experiences of the Sansui micro 1575. Id really appreciate any comments on this article.
This is a three-in-one c.d., radio , cassette stereo player.
Lets talk about looks now.
The set has a silver and grey colour scheme. When it first arrived it did look good but after a while it lost its sheen and it no longer looks that great anymore. Yes, every set loses sheen after a while unless of course you polish it regularly. For those of you who don’t, and if looks are important to you this set will not look appealing after a while. The silver looks very drab and dull.
One thing that first struck me about this set was the buttons for the cassette player. They are rally ugly things that seem to have been manufactured during the seventies or something. They are the protruding type.
Furthermore the buttons need more pressure to activate than any other set I have operated. This may not seem to be an important point, but you will see a noticeable difference when pushing play.
The c.d. section has a decent flat push button interface, no complaints here.
The radio has a flexible wire instead of an antenna. So it is quite a nuisance in cases where you want to adjust it. Maybe they were cutting costs. That’s the impression I get.
The radio tuner is digital so there are no dials to turn around. If pressed for long and released, it will continue searching for a signal and will automatically stop at the next radio channel provided of course the signal for that frequency is strong.
Coming to the C.d. player. We did have problem with it but I honestly am not sure whether it was the manufacturers fault. Heres the story. The c.d. player stopped reading c.d.s. After giving it to our local technician, he sent it back to us saying that the parts on the inside were Chinese and he did not want to mess it up. We then called up the Sansui customer support center. They were very prompt, and they sent us their authorised engineer to us and he said that only problem was that the reading glass was slightly misaligned. All he needed to do was push it a little and it worked. Later our c.d. player still shows a “no disc” message. Anyway in the meantime we got ourselves a different c.d. player and we blocked this out of our memories.
It has a few “extra” features, most of which I never used. A mute button(it works!) and a sleep button which I cant seem to figure out. It has a socket for a microphone for karaoke as well as a socket for headphones.
Okay now, how well does this piece translate all those magnetic and digital codes into what we call music? The final output from this set is not at all satisfactory. Preset equalizers help but only a little.
Be it a c.d. or a cassette or the radio, the music does not sound as great as it does on other music systems. So the main aim of this set does not get fulfilled. You really cannot hear the high pitch sounds very well. Only when you listen to the same song on another set would you really know the difference. The music sounds a bit muffled.I cannot say much more about how it sounds because it just does not satisfy me.
If in case you are a true music connoisseur and know more about music that the little that I know, I would suggest you give this particular set a miss. It will be music to your ears. (Sorry I had to say that)
Enjoy!
