I chose to watch this film on DVD, because I really like Aamir Khan and Naseeruddin Shah as actors. I also was recommended this film by some friends since I am not really into the Bollywood love story films. This reminds me very much of the Hong Kong action film plots that I had always enjoyed.
Cast: Aamir Khan plays Ajay Singh Rathod, a police officer who is out to bust a group of terrorists. Naseeruddin Shah is a Ghazal singer/terrorist leader who befriends Ajay.
Plot: As I said, the story very much reminds me of the Hong Kong action films I have come to enjoy. Ajays father is seriously injured and his brother is killed by a group of terrorists stopping his father from testifying against them. The terrorists are supplying arms to further their cause. Ajay decides to become a cop to avenge his fathers injury and his brothers death. He befriends a Ghazal singer he admires, and little does he know what the man is up to. The film consists of the typical song and dance in these films as well as a love story.
Pros: I really liked the dialogue of the film and the action. It was kind of bloody, which surprised me for a Bollywood film. I think it added to the emotions involved in watching the film. The actors did a superb job as I knew they would. You saw them as the characters now and not as actors simply playing a role.
Cons: Why is it when the bad guys are hiding out somewhere in the middle of nowhere they live in a big house and are having a party complete with singing and dancing girls? That kind of threw me off, but it made me laugh, which I think was needed since the rest of the story is so serious. The love story angle was also kind of silly, but I know one has to appeal to the masses.
Conclusion: All in all, I am glad I watched this film. It was better than a lot of films I have seen lately, but certainly not as good as others. You should catch this film when you have a free evening or afternoon and just want to wind down.
