"Badia Khana hai khana toh Dhabe pe zaroor jana"
This one is for those whose love rich& heavy non-veg food. It was my last examination and after that all friends decided to go to this place. it was a cold night the drive towards Dhaba was amazing. once we exit Mumbai city the drive became more pleasant. Shalimar Dhaba is roughly 90 kms from Mumbai on Mumbai-Nashik road.
We reached there around 9 pm in the night. This was a complete new experience for me. Since there were girls with us, we were placed in the family section. So for those who want go there with there family there is separate section for families and singles. Long khatiyas with mattress and pillows are placed by the side of the tables. This is really comfortable after such a long drive.
One of the specialities of this place is they do not store frozen chicken. Chicken is freshly cut as we place our order. To all my muslim friends do not fear chicken here is 100% halal and this restaurant is owned by a muslim, so do not fear about the meat that is available.
As I said the chicken is freshly cut it takes quite a little time for the dishes to be ready. By the time we are served fried masala chana with roasted masala papad. The fried chana has amazing mouth watering taste there are also garlic with this chana which was completely new for my. Can you imagine garlic with sweet taste? it was really good.
Dishes that I ordered
Chicken Malai Tikka
Delicious boneless chicken roasted after a white marinate and was served with covering of Malai and yoghurt salad which tasted sweet and was really tasty.
Bhuna Chicken
This was also a starter. This one had a spicy taste and was not much different then what we get in the city. but still it was not bad.
Mutton lazeez
As the name itself speaks for it. It was really lazeez. The meat was properly cooked and the curry had brilliant combination of sweet and spice, which tasted amazing with egg tandoori roti. The gravy was garnished with fried egg which made it look very tasty.
Talking about the service quality the service is quick and the waiters help you in deciding what one should order as per his taste The ambience is peaceful and silent. However I would suggest the suitable time is in the winters as the seating arrangements is completely open people would feel hot in normal days.
Our billing amount was about Rs. 2, 200/- for six people which is a fair bill and is worth for such a lovely dinner. The restrooms stink and are unhygienic which is the only negative point that I feel. Consuming alcohol is strictly not allowed as this place is owned by a muslim.
I would suggest people to visit this place with friends or with big joint families and I assure you that your visit will not be a waste. The last thing I would say is it is a heaven for non-vegetarians but is not meant for vegetarians.
