Dnt opt for Sify Broadband - my last wish

Starting the review on a bad note, I really want to say SIFY BROADBAND <SUCKS>.


N y shouldnt it. It is really SO BAD !!!!!


My tryst with Sify Broadband :


It was December 2004 and my telephone bills had been steadily rising - all thanks to my continuous usage of the net on dial up thru VSNL. I had been rummaging through various advts for cable net at my place ( Dombivli W ) and got to know of two options - FAB Net and Sify Broadband. I had heard bad things about Sify but hadn’t cared too much. I did ask for a FAB connection, but they couldnt give the connection because my house is too far ( 2 buildings away) and that if I wanted a cnxn I would have to gather more persons coz they couldnt afford n all that shitty crap .....


Finally, I settled in for a Sify connection - ahhh .. broadband(bloody , not even cable) I should call it !!! My nightmare had just started. I started with a 40kbps package. The company charges Rs.299 for the product, but the local guys offered it to us for a surcharge of 50, which increased my cost to Rs.350 + Rs.1500 as installation charges(not refundable).


The next two days all went okay, but on the third day my dialer just didnt work - gave me an error of some BB101 or BB 103 or some sort of crap. Allright, I said. Might be an error. We had bought the package on specific condition that the net would work even when there was a blackout. We had an inverter fixed for the same. Nops.... the dialer didnt work....


The anti-virus provided by Sify is so shitty ... Didnt even recognise a virus in my comp ... Had to get my comp reformated time and again . the local guys with the exception of a couple of them are hardly helpful.... IF the net doesnt work , infact it mostly does not work, they have some or the other reason to give.


The next month, I took a package of 96KBPS, but thrice my speed went down to 303bytes per sec, when in fact im supposed to receive 8kbps. Amazing <BROADBAND>.


These three months have been the worst - either the Sify Server is down ( the main one ), or Mumbai’s server is down, the local guys’ server is down or there is some problem or the other.


Worst part of all, their customer care is based in Chennai - the ppl there cant even pronunce our names correctly , give vague answers and are the least helpful. ’’Everything shall be corrected tomorrow, we are very sorry’’, is the standard reply . One day, their engineer came and accused us of spoiling our computer ourselves. I got so mad that day I could have kicked the guy out. Finally, two days back, I fired the customer care ( pity the employee ) guy then n there ! I threatened to lodge a PIL against Sify to prevent cheating of future customers. Since two days, I am getting reasonable speeds, but the name broadband SUCKS BIG TIME .
