Creating a band involves a lot of issues. Firstly, all of the band members are musicians in thier own field. This is good, but straight off this serves as a warning as ego will clash at a point. So its very necessary that you have a level headed person in your band always, so that he can let off the steam when things boil up.
The next thing to be aware of is the talent that you have. Most of the musicians of today are multi skilled, thats always a good sign. When meeting people, try to get people who are serious about what they say and do, and people who live up to their word. In this industry, keeping up your word is the most important key, and thats what people judge you with. I have been in a band so I know. The next thing to note is how your band sounds. Remember that the way you sound during practise, the way you sound on stage and the way you sound in a studio are all 3 different things. Dont mix them. Why I say this is simply because of the way your sound setup is done. The studio offers you an environment like an R&D Test lab, where everything is perfect and controlled. The stage is different because you are now working with a different set of environment, its more open, the sound will change - no questions asked. So, in short every member of the team should be aware of the technical know how behind every gig. They can affect your performance to a large extent.
Always record your practise sessions, whether youre going to blow your head off or not, it makes sense because if you dont record your sessions you will hear it for that instant in time, you will not be able to fall back on your performance, moreover this also helps you test howtight or howloose your band sounds. And hey, if you sound real good, then you can send one of your practise demos to a studio!. Last, but not the least, all members of the band should interact well and have good cordial vibes both on stage and off stage. Vibes that will be positive on you and your member. This will make a band really last long. And as creativity comes in leaps and bounds, you will be bombarded by suggestions from all your team members, take the logical and most responsible decision always, after consultations so that you dont hurt the feelings of anyone.
All the best!
