I had invested some money in SBI mutual fund a year ago. As I was in need of money urgently, in the month of november, 2007, I submitted my application for redemption. On the same day I had also applied for redemption of my funds from another investment with Sundaram. This I did on 5th Nov. and by 9th Nov. I received the cheque from Sundaram. There was a mistake on my part in entering my account no. and therefore I had to return the cheque with a request to change the account no. on the cheque. The new cheque reached me within the next 5 days.
What happened with my SBI redemption is traumatic. I waited due to long diwali holidays in gujarat. I contacted the bank on 20th of the month. they told me that the cheque has been forwarded to me by one balaji couriers on 7th of the month and it has already been received. they did not accept my contention that I have not received at all. they told me that I have to submit an indemnity bond and after twenty days the amount will be reimbursed to me. I visited the office and demanded that they show me the receipt of balaji couriers.
the signature no way resembled signatures of any member in my family. it appeared to have been scribbled by an uneducated person with lot of difficulty and under some ones instruction. I brought this to the attention of the officials present there. they said that my claim is genuine and they will take up the matter.
two days later, 3 young men looking ruff, knocked at our doors in the afternoon when I was away in the office. They started telling my wife and daughter, why you have complained when I have delivered the mail here why you have complained. when my wife approached the phone and said "let me call the police", these three men ran away. I immediately called up their office and informed them. the officer incharge apologised to me and to my wife and daughter.
but after all these happening today is 6th december, and there is no sight of payment due to me. now they have stopped sending me any mail, or calling me over phone. no reply to my mails too.
