SUKRAN - Shines !

With a very delicate storyline shot with very minimal budget and soothing youthful songs, the Star ‘Sukran’ shines as one of the best movies of the times and Sukran unquestionably adds another feather to Vijay’s Cap….

THE STORY

The ‘7G Rainbow Colony’ Hero Ravi Krishna is the Hero and the new face Natasha is the heroine, who are both college students very intensely in love with each other. Natasha’s mother (actress Nalini) is a typical atrocious chithi character who desires to get Natasha married to her brother, who is yet another evil character. Natasha suffers a great deal in the hands of the torturing step-mother. Hero Ravi’s father is Naazar who is a very understanding Friend, Philosopher & Guide to his son. Ravi and his dad shares almost everything on top of the earth.

When Natasha’s stepmother comes to know of the love affair, being a prototypical stepmother, her tortures to the heroine get increased a lot and when they were left with no other option, the young lovers run away to Chennai as advised by Ravi’s father Naazar. Coming to know that Naazar was the reason behind their girl running away, the stepmother and her brother stabs Naazar to death, but before passing away Naazar kills the stepmother’s brother too.   With the help of Sreeman, a Police Inspector in Chennai, Naazar’s murder is framed on Ravi. Nataasha pleads the policemen to release her lover but in vain. Finally, Inspector Sreeman suggests that she goes to plead the High Court Judge who is the ultimate deciding authority in the murder case. On seeing Natasha’s beautiful physique, the Inspector, the Judge and some other fellow all together rape the heroine and end up beating Ravi very badly and throws the lovers into a pond thinking that they are both dead.

It takes a very long time for Natasha to recover from the deep shock of having been raped and gradually the lovers start forgetting the past and get married & start living peacefully thereupon improving their financial status with the guidance of another Judge (actress Seetha). But to their bad luck after a few years, inspector Sreeman sees the couple and start giving tortures to them. Now comes our real hero Vijay, who is a very popular lawyer most famous of only winning all the cases he takes up. Vijay rescues the young couple and saves Ravi (from the eyes of Law) who shoots all the cruel people who had been responsible for their sufferings so far. Thereafter, the young couple start living peacefully forever…….

THE WHY’S ?

The three cruel men who rapes the heroine always have the habit of taking video of their brutal rapes and Inspector Sreeman maintains CDs of all the rapes…. Lawyer Vijay with the help of the popular dancer of “Cheena Thaanaa…” in MBBS secretively acquires the CD of Natasha’s rape…. But isn’t there something fishy about video-recording every rape ?

The Stepmother could be projected brutal obviously, but why she must go to the extent of killing the hero’s father, but neither being punished nor being identified by anyone of her cold-bloodedness.

BEHIND THE SUCCESS OF THE FILM

MUSIC

First worth a mention is the outstanding music – all the songs are invariably melodious and very youthful. The background music too adds a very great charm to most of the scenes. Good work by the new Music Director Vijay Antony.

VIJAY

Vijay’s admirable way of rendering the dialogues, especially here being a lawyer, he has managed to speak out unbroken dialogue shots to our satisfaction. He appears in the movie almost after the interval only, but has done an excellent job. As a Lawyer, he saves genuine and abandoned people who have committed crimes by circumstances.

His preparation of Dosa (or Omlet, I don’t exactly remember) while a criminal comes to Vijay’s house to kill him. The Court scenes easily get our applause. Many of Vijay’s films are greatly known for the comedy sequences. Here, you don’t find any comedy supporting artist but a few good comedy scenes like the Kitchen sequence etc. are pretty hilarious. Vijay no doubt, is a massive pillar to Sukran.

HERO & HEROINE

Ravi Krishna’s voice is quite different and he has indeed improved a lot after 7G Rainbow Colony. His expressions are mostly very natural and he has acted comparatively much better as a juvenile lover, a caring husband, a serious man punishing the criminals… he sure has a good future in Gollywood.

Heroine Natasha (she calls herself as Anitha too) appears very young and has done her part quite well in the movie. For a new face the Director has given a multi-face in the film which shows his great confidence on her. Natasha – Good choice !

CONCLUSION

In general, although the Cinematography or the Direction specifically don’t have much to be boasted about here, Sukran has certainly come out as an interesting movie with a very uncompounded story and with the natural performance by the Artists.

Sequences like the Lovers’ cute playful fightings with each other and Judge Seetha’s kind support to the lovers and her brutal way of being murdered are touching scenes in the film.

Despite being relatively new to the field, the hero and heroine have contributed their best and are undoubtedly worth an applause ! Though Actress Seetha and Actor Naazar have nothing too much to do, they have performed their portions in a very satisfactory way.

While we are literally shocked by the Heroine’s pitiful rape scenes and the continuous brutal tortures to the young couple, the movie suddenly takes a turn when Lawyer Vijay comes to rescue the young couple and the Director S.A. Chandrasekar has presented Vijay’s entry in quite an exciting manner. Court scenes are nothing new to Tamil cinema but still the ones here doesn’t tire the spectators.

Overall, Sukran is worth a watch at least once & let us wait and see if this Lucky Star favors the new artists in future in this competitive Gollywood field !!
