I normally stay miles away from action flicks. Not since Terminator 2 have I seen a good action film. And i’m not in school anymore too. So why did I watch this one? Well I think John Travolta is THE COOL White man of Hollywood. No i’m not saying hes the best actor. That hes not. But hes cool. Everything he does on screen oozes with so much personality, even if nothing in the film makes sense.
So I rented the VCD of Swordfish after 2 weeks of of to watch or not to watch battle inside my head. The film was exactly what I expected it to me. This movie might not be the movie intellectual will talk about in parties but it entertains for most of its running time. And its not just Travolta & Hugh Jackman’s personality & Harry Balle’s ’’B00BS’’ which entertained me. It was the kick arse cinemetography.
SWORDFISH has the most spectacular movie explosion of all time. John Woo U got competition. That alone is worth the trip to the theatre. Let me try to describe it to you. Theres this human bomb which explodes & as it does so the scene freezes & the camera starts moving around in 360 degree pattern & you can see in freeze frames the explosion. It was one of the coolest explosions i’ve seen on film.
The direction is total kick arse . Total STYLISH!!! The yellow shade of the film was nice. But the best part of the film is the opening scene which has a ’’DONT FORGET TARINTINO REDISCOVERED ME SO I WILL DO A PULP FICTION GENRE SCENE Everywhere’’ kinda feel to it. Watch it & you’ll know. The film starts with ’’You know what the problem is with Hollywood?’’ ’’They make shit.’’ AND HE MAKES SENSE!!! hehe.Its vintage Travolta at his best. He goea on to explain that ’’movies lack realism’’...Ironic dialogue to start a action film like this I must say.
Travolta plays one hell of a whacked out characteer. Yeah I found it more whacky than the ’’coolest angel on cinema-MICHAEL’’. He is a terrorist who must preserve the humanity by going to the extremes of terrorism & showing the world that terrorism is not the answer to anything....Doeasnt make sense? well u forgot its a action film :) . You r not supposed to think so much boy!!!
Now some negatives-
I dont know why screenwriters r still making ’’computers that flash ’’Access Denied’’ until the last possible second, then say ’’Access Granted’’. Its been done to death so many times I think this concept should be banned totally. On top of that Jackman is getting a ’’blowjob’’ while having a go at the firewall. And Vinnie Jones is holding a gun at Jackmans forehead too. This scene kindof symbolifies the film in one scene- SEX , VIOLENCE , STYLE & PASSWORD CRACKING!!!
Vinnie Jones is again wasted.... What r the British hooligans doing?? ur Jones is being exploited out there & u guys r fighting with the organised German hooligans??? Save Vinnie first!!!And its hard to believe that Hugh JAckman is a computer hacker!!!
The movie never makes sense actually. At times I really gets too much. But Travolta & the camera & the editing keeps it going. Its one of those ’’GUILTY PLEASURE FILMS’’.
