TATA SKY - Not a Bad Experience but can be better

I decided to change from my Cable wallah after getting frustrated with his behaviour, lack of response, arbitrary changing of channel slots, poor reception ( I had cartoon Network running in the background while Zee TV used to play in the foreground). As we currently have a choice of only TATA SKY and Dish TV, I did a detailed analysis of both, vis-a-vis the channels received, quality, ordering process, renewal process. I spoke to people who had installed the same My conclusion was to buy Dish TV.

As the choice was more, the rental was better, and the Satellite dish was to be with you for 5 years unlike TATA SKYI took the contact of the Dish TV guy who had installed it for my neighbour and called him. He agreed to come with the set and do the installation next day2 days passed, 4 days, 1 week and no response. I went to Dish TV website and called up 3 dealers in the area I live, and wonder of wonders... they all were no longer dealing with Dish TV, but had instead switched to Tata Sky. That set me thinking, if Dish TV was really better, why are these people switching.

Anyway, I called another dealer who promised to install, but did not turn up for 4 days. By now, we were all getting frustrated, and decided to switch to Tata Sky.I bought the equipment, and placed a call to their call center. I had their service engineer calling me back 2 hours later, and he came the next day afternoon and installed it and explained the works. The voucher process for charging was also smooth. The quality of reception is far superior to your cable, and the menu makes life easy, you know what is the current program (by chance if you switch on in the middle of a movie), what is the next program etc. etc.It has been functioning smoothly for a month and my family is happy with it.

Over all no complaints. I find their service levels far superior to Dish, though on other counts, they are same. However, the recharge options are limited (Only vouchers), nothing like online payment, credit card etc. You need to find a shop stocking the vouchers High transfer charges of 1000 if you move house Lesser channel content. Key channels missing (Sun, Gemini, TCM, etc.)Pogo is in Hindi only. No English Option, which is surprising, as the cable guy provides it in English.

Really is awkward listening to Noddy and gang, Harry Potter speak in Hindi Hope Tata SKy realize that the only way to lock in customers is to offer them good content, variety, and be more customer friendly. Good Customer service is nice but not enough if it is not backed up with what a customer truly desires
