Its been more than a year now since I upgraded to Tata Sky. Initial response was Wow because of the quality of both picture and sound especially on an LCD TV.But in the long run, there have been negatives and less positives from this service. Monthly bill goes up from conventional cable as you need at least Rs 300 p.m. to get the decent channels you can actually watch. The picture and sound quality is good but definitely not DVD quality as being marketed.
The STB has no component output but only an RF and normal A/V output to TV leading to further loss in quality though its not much evident on CRT televisions.
Newer channels (like Zoom, 9X, Bindaas, Neo Sports etc) are put into a different package requiring an additional Rs 30 p.m. even when they might be free to air.
Some facts are hidden from customers like only 1 yr warranty on STB and additional cost for maintenance after that period. This I came to know only when I called the service desk once for a drop in sound quality on many ZEE channels.
Drop in signal quality is very evident in rainy season.
Positives include program schedule with program synopsis on most channels and option to recharge online.
All in all, if you dont run into problems with actual hardware and dont require to contact service desk its a good option when you dont mind the extra investment.
