Well, I wanted to try an online tax portal this time and went to Taxsmile as their ad through Google adsense is popping up on every Indian site. Initial registration was okay with not too much trouble but that was the only smooth part. Since, they demand that you use a peculiar password I had to formulate one specific to them and hence could not remember it later on. This is how the sequence of events happened post this:
Went to forgot password, entered details and no mail came for two days.
Went back did the same thing again, nothing happened for the entire next day. Thought email should be instantaneous.
Tried chatting to a support staff no one came online even after waiting for one hour.
Called them up and a person told me that this will happen fast as he has taken a complaint. I am yet to receive my password after three weeks.
Sent a mail to support@taxsmile.com got a response after nine days and they were quite apologetic.
Sent a mail to them again on May 20 about the delayed response and got a mail from them after 13 days, again apologetic:).
Doesn’t look like a website which one should rely on for filing your returns. If their reponse is like this for simple queries, imagine what would happen once you have paid up. My suggestion is to get a digital certificate and upload the return yourself on Income Tax website.
Taxspanner.com is at least very fast with communication, I still need to try them out for digital certificate issuance, will post my review after that.
