Somehow really really rating best authors is quite a tough job.here are a few of my favourites:
Tom Robbins- Amazing, wild, rollicking, hyperbolic - thats the only way I can describe my favourite author who takes you on a wild, almost psychedelic trip leaving you gasping for more.incredulous! Good reads areJitterbug Perfume, Still life with woodpecker, Skinny legs and all
John Irving- touching, poignant, interesting, a good story teller. good ones The world according to Garp which was a cult book, The 158 pound marriage etc.
Rohinton Mistry - really a class act.the focus on everyday people living their everyday lives under extraordinary circumstances.really good.A fine balance, Such a long journey, Swimming Lessons - Tales from Firozshabaug.especiallyA fine balance - its really touching(heart wrenching) and leaves you with a nice feeling of having read a truly great novel!
Bapsi Sidhwa - Rollicking tales full of funny, lovable and wicked characters.her lifelike portrayal of characers actually makes you feel a part of the story.good reads are The Crow eaters, the Paskistani Bride, The Ice Candy man
Vikram seth -A suitable Boy is reaaaaalllly long.but its great.wonderful insights.andThe Golden Gate is awesome.
Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay -Pathar Panchali.do read it.never have I come across a more poignant account of childhood and innocence.
Kuvempu(K.V. Putappa) - The english translation of his Kannada novelKanooru Heggaditi is a vivid and engaging tale of life in rural India.its not a tear jerker, it not about social causes.its just about family life.and beautifully told .
Erle Stanley Gardner - nice whodunnits.Perry Mason is a lot more intersting than Christies staid knitting freak Miss Marple.almost as good as Hercule Poirot.
well I guess there are lots more.and ill keep adding!
