Picking just some ten from hundreds of movies I have seen is a daunting task for me but then I think Ill give this my best try. Every movie that I rate here as my top ten are for the reason that these movies are I think were well ahead of their times whether that be the technical aspect or in intellectual aspect. I can say with a pretty good confidence that I have seen films from almost every era that I have been born in and so harbor some pretty good idea about many but maybe Ill miss some best out.
The Godfather : Definitely the only best way the novel could be brought to life. All my visualisation and imagination of the characters that I had in my mind while reading the novel just simply sprang to life in this film. The mafia, the haunting music, the dons easily one of the best films to ever be made in Hollywood. This is what made me the die-hard fan of Al-Pacino and Marlon Brando.
Where Eagles Dare : Probably my first war film before going on to watch Guns of Navarone, Force 10 from Navarone, Bridge on the River Kwai, this movie was enchanting as well as informative. Probably some of the best histrionic display of acting talents were on display here.
Devils Advocate : Al Pacino delivers a biggie here seducing his own son to the life of sin. Though wooden faced Keanu Reeves has not much to deliver here what caught my imagination was the concept of Satan here. Awesome.
Terminator 1 & 2 : The future coming to the past to alter the present and the future. Just a concept really mind-boggling in itself. Complemented by the maverick director and the hulk Arnie and the eye-popping special effects this is just the best of that time.
Citizen Kane: Documenting the life and death of a media tycoon, his own personal demons, his faults and his greatness, a simple critical look of his life, one of the movies ever. Kept me engrossed in it didnt mind waking up at 12 midnight to go on with it till 2( ??? )
Matrix : Though the genre of films had already arrived, this indicated the quantum leap in the intellectual creativity of directors, the Wachowski Brothers. The idea in itself mind-boggling. The freeze frame animations, the bullet frames, just eye-popping. Neo, Trinity n Morpheus have become a part of my life ever since. Watch out for the 2nd and the 3rd parts.
Home Alone 1 2 3 : My best bet for a time pass hilarious comedy to mend my mood any time of the day. Every time I watch I just fall to the floor laughing. Probably the best made comedy ever. McCaulay Culkin is really cute...
Braveheart : William Wallace the hero. No movie could ever humanise a hero as this one did. His love, the death of the love, his rise, his patriotism, his struggle, all kept me stuck to the set for the whole length of the movie. Tears trickled down my eyes on the end of the climax. Just the best.
Sixth Sense : Im really proud to say that this film finds a place in my list. Gives me immense pride that this movie is made by Indian. Just the best that you can do with such a thin storyline. Just left gasping in awe at the superb climax. Kept me thinking if ghosts did really exist.
Saving Private Ryan : Just how important is a soldier to a country as he is to his family ? The poigant recollection of Private Ryan of his past, his saviour just kept me gaspring for breath. This question just keeps ticking in my mind Do we really need wars ?
That is my top ten movies. I know I have inadvertently left out some good ones like Jaws, ET, Jackie Chans movies, Aliens, but they I think lacked that soul that needs to make them the gems that they need to be
