There are so many movies that have struck a chord.such a vast variety to choose from.but somehow I’ve managed to pick the ten movies that impressed me.here we go.they arent in any particular order.
1. Notting Hill
Set in Notting Hill, London this is a romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant(playing William - a book shop owner) and Julia Roberts(playing Anna Scott- a movie star) directed by Roger Michell. Supported by a very able cast including Tim McInnerny(as Max) and Rhys Ifans(as Spike) .This is a poor boy / rich girl story.I’m not one for romance but this movie is very light and refreshing. Its funny too.with the entire cast excelling in their roles. A must see!

2. A few good men
One of the many’military’ based movies I like(must be my army background - u c my dad was in the army). This movie stars Tom Cruise(Kaffe), Jack Nicholson(Col. Jessep), Demi Moore(Galloway - looking stunning in her white uniform), Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland. This was originally a Broadway play and was then made into a movie. The movie is a courtroom drama about two marines who accidentally kill a soldier while carrying out an order from a superior officer for a’code red’(an unofficial harsh / violent disciplining procedure in the US marines). Brilliant performances keep you rivetted. Gotta see this one .if u havent.

3. Bad boys
This is a beauty! Action.comedy.thriller.you name it. It is fast paced.beautiful photography.good music.slick action sequences.and has funny dialogues. It stars Martin Lawrence(Marcus), Will Smith(Mike), Tea Leoni(Julie) and Joe Pantoliano(Capt. Howard). The movie is about two detectives(partners) investigating a drug heist. Tea leoni is the eyewitness they have to protect. A good popcorn movie!

4. Monsters Inc.
Hey.dont look at me that way. It IS a good movie! Beautifully animated.featuring the voices of John Goodman(Sully), Billy Crystal(Mike), Mary Gibbs(adorable Boo), Steve Buscemi(Randall), James Coburn(Henry) and Jennifer Tilly(Celia). Come on.admit it.it was a good movie.and we loved it as much as our kids did. Its the story of Monsters who scare kids in order to generate power from their screams! They are terrified of actually touching the kids cuz they think their environment wud be contaminated by kids! Into this world.enters Boo.and all hell breaks loose. Boo is my all time favourite animated character!
Btw.I like Shrek.Finding Nemo and Ice age too.but I wont mention them on this list!

5. Saving Private Ryan
Steven Spielberg’s 2nd World War masterpiece.a rescue mission.a team sent in to rescue Private Ryan. Tom Hanks, Vin Diesel, Matt Damon, Ted Danson etc form an all-star cast. The battle scenes especially the Normandy landing are incredible. This is how a war movie should be made(J.P. Dutta are u listening?). Its by far the best war movie I have ever seen.

6. The Sixth Sense
Night Shyamalan’s movie about a boy who can communicate with ghosts. Bruce Willis(Dr. Malcolm).Haley Joel Osment(Cole.brilliant performance).Toni Collete(Lynn) star in this spooky movie. The movie absorbs you and compels you to watch it from beginning to end.one shot. The movie has drama.it has horror.and the twist in the end.is incredible. Great movie!

7. Cast Away
Directed by Robert Zemeckis(Death Becomes Her / What Lies beneath / Ghost Ship), this Tom Hanks starrer is an absolute pleasure to watch. Tom Hanks as Chuck Noland, plays a FedEx executive who is the only survivor of a plane crash on a deserted island. The movie documents his story of survival. Once again Tom Hanks proves his worth and carries the entire movie on his shoulders.

8. Crimson Tide
A Tony Scott movie starring Gene Hackman(Capt. Ramsey), Denzel Washingtom(Lt.Commander Hunter) and Matt Craven(Lt. Zimmer). Its about a US nuclear sub which receives orders to fire nuclear weapons against Russian rebels who have taken over one of the ICBM bases in Russia. Immediately after receiving this order, the sub loses contact with command HQ while receiving a follow up msg. Capt. Ramsey wants to launch but his XO(Executive Offr Hunter) wants to wait and receive the incomplete message, which cud be a cancellation. When Capt. Ramsey insists, Hunter is forced to lead a mutiny and take over the sub. Brilliant performances.great underwater action sequences make this a must-see movie.

9. Life is beautiful
An unforgettable Italian movie with English subtitles about a Jewish man(Guido) and his family(wife Dora and son Gisoue) in a Concentration camp. Guido hides Gisoue from the Germans, convincing him that its all a game. His heart wrenching escapades combined with the innocence of Gisoue leaves a permanent mark on your soul. This is one movie that has the ability to move even the most heartless amongst us.

- Schindler’s List
Another great movie by Steven Spielberg, starring Liam Neeson(Oskar Schindler) and Ben Kingsley(Itzhak Stern). The true story of a german businessman who saves Polish Jews from extermination during the 2nd World War by employing them in his factory thus making them’useful’ to the Nazis. This is a heart wrenching movie in black & white brings out the agony, despair and cruelty during the Holocaust. Performances are mind blowing. One of the best movies ever made!

So theres my list of 10 great movies. I am sure there are lots that I have missed and they will come back to haunt me soon enough! Hope this made interesting reading.
