I guess, it is a matter of getting used to. I come to Chennai, after four decades in Mumbai. I used to think that TOI at mumbai was going down the tube, but now I will be glad if TOI is launched at Chennai.
Here, there is not much of a choice. You can either opt for a rag called the New Indian Express or The Hindu. Reading Hindu is like reading one continuous obituary. It is confirmed news, articles on religion etc., In one sense, the paper is timeless. You can read the daily even after a year and you will not know the difference. The writing style is archaic, with each writer competing with the other to show off his/her vocabulary skills. Each sentence is so long that by the time you complete one sentence, you have lost the thread.
In a daily, you want to read about the city, the suburbs and national news. Supplements are on education, science and other boring things, which you can get free on the net.
I hope that either the TOI or some other newspaper comes in to Chennai and gives this newspaper a decent burial.
