Living in India, its difficult to find a copy of this movie, since its rare, not for the average filmgoer and was banned at time of its release in America.
When I got my hands on Martin Scorseses film, I had already seen The Passion Of The Christ. This movie stars William Dafoe (Spiderman, Speed2:Cruise Control) as Jesus of Nazareth. Scorsese establishes a dreamlike mood by combining Michael Ballhaus?s photography with a transcendent soundtrack by Peter Gabriel in order to fully explore the idea that perhaps Jesus was both God and man. He was a great soul.
The film is about Jesus imagining himself getting married to Mary Magadelene just before the cruxification takes place. He thinks of an alternate life if he hadnt made the choices that he already had at that point of time. Though the film is very high in sense of Art Direction and cinematography, it is a must watch for people who otherwise love to see religious films.
I dont want to compare The Passion Of The Christ with this film because its unfair for the films themselves. Both Gibson and Scorsese are my favourites, so full points to them in their respective works.
Anyone living in Mumbai having a copy of this film and would like to share it, since I want a copy of it myself can email me at rajkparekh@indiatimes.com
Goodluck for a great film.
