Movie Review Of The Mexican

Psst - This section will contain some inside trivia about the film.

Quotes - Good one liners from the movie.

Oops - Goofs From the movie.

Director - Gore Verbinski

Screenplay - J.H.Wyman

Jerry (Brad Pitt) is trying to break free from his criminal past for the sake of his girlfriend Samantha (Julia Roberts). When pulled in for one last job, Jerry is sent to Mexico to retrieve an antique pistol dubbed ’’The Mexican’’ which holds a legendary curse on it. To make sure Jerry pulls off the job without a hitch, the mob sends a brute named Leroy (James Gandolfini) to kidnap Samantha as insurance. Samantha and Leroy begin a tender friendship when Samantha confides to Leroy about relationship problems. Back in Mexico, Jerry finds himself getting into all sorts of trouble trying to locate the gun, and back home, little knowing there are more skeletons in the closet. Thankfully (I know many of you will not agree with me on this) not much emphasis is laid on the on-screen chemisty between The 2 stars and the movie is very fast paced. Yet a big blunder lets down the entire charm of the movie (please see thee oops section for it).

Psst -

1) This movie flopped very badly worldwide. This was Julia Robert’s first flop after 4 successive hit films. (My Best Friend’s Wedding, Notting Hill, Runaway Bride & Erin Brokovich). This Was the second consecutive big budget flop, after ’The Fight Club’.

Quotes

1) ’’ You have managed to Forrest Gump your way through this’’

2) ’’I’m not gonna kill you. I am gonna have to shoot you.’’

3) ’’When do you get to the point of enough is enough?; Never.’’

Oops

1) Several items that Samantha throws at Jerry during their argument disappear in subsequent scenes.

2) Leroy’s body can be seen breathing after Jerry shoots him dead.

3) The film opens with a car crash at an intersection clearly labeled ’’Laurel Terrace, ’’ but when Julia explains the story later in the film she says that it was at the intersection of ’’Laurel Canyon and Ventura

4) After Leroy takes Samantha from the mall, her car does not have a rear license plate, a few minutes later when he pulls over because she is feeling ill it has a rear license plate. Additionally, when they are speeding down the freeway after leaving the mall the car has acquired a front license plate.

5) THE BIGGEST BLUNDER OF THE MOVIE - U.S. citizens DO NOT need a passport to travel to/from Mexico. This would eliminate an entire subplot (and the climax) of the film.
