Movie Review Of The Sum Of All Fears

Psst - This section will contain some inside trivia about the film.

Quotes - Good one liners from the movie.

Oops - Goofs From the movie.

Director - Phil Alden Robinson

Screenplay - Tom Clancy, Paul Attanasio & Daniel Pyne

The 4th Installment of the American Version Of james Bond..Jack Ryan (now Played by Ben Affleck). The Movie starts in 1973 during the war of Allied Forces of Egypt-Syria Against Israel. One Israeli Missile fails to explode and is buried in the desert of Syria. Fast Forward to 2002 when Russia is on war with Chechnya and the CIA headed by Chief William Cabot (Morgan Freeman) and The US President Robert Fowler (James Cromwell) wants to stop the war. The Russian President (Ciaran Hinds) asks them not to interfere in their internal affairs. The Americans are too keen now to send their peace keeping troops. Taking Advantage of the cold war bewteen Russia and USA, A group of Russian Rebels and Neo-Nazis decide to bomb a US city where the president goes so that the entire blame goes to Russia and the super powers go to war and destroy themselves. But our hero Jack Ryan is there to save the day. Although the story may sound a little far fetched, but considering what happened on 11th September, 2001 anything is possible. Good acting by everyone although I still think That Ben affleck is really a miscast and Harrison Ford is missed. Good fast paced editing by Nicolas De Toth & Neil Travis and good background score by Jerry Goldsmith. Loosely inspired from 1978 Film Black Sunday(a group of terrorists who plan to detonate a nuclear device at the Superbowl) . Worth a watch. The scene where the israeli aircraft is blown in the starting scne is definately worth a watch.

Psst -

1) Harrison Ford was paid 50 Million dollars while signing for Patriot games to play the role of Jack ryan in 5 films. He did only 2. This is the first jack ryan film in 8 years. The Last being, Clear and present Danger in 1994.

2) Ben Affleck is the third person to play the role of Jack Ryan. Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for the red october) and Harrison Ford (Patriot Games & Clear and present danger) were the wother two.

3) The director changed the villains from Islamic extremists (in the novel) to Neo-Nazis after the September 11 attacks.

4) It is rumored that Matt Damon had a cameo as a waiter, but it was cut. Matt Damon is Ben Affleck’s Writing partner and Best Friend. (Just Like the Salim Khan - Javed Akhtar team of Bolywood)

5) The Novel By Tom Clance was published way back in 1991. That is the reason why Jack Ryan is still not married in this movie.

6) This is Phil Alden Robinson’s directorial debut feature film.

Oops

1) Look at The US president’s head after the bomb blast in Baltimore. His forehead has a band-aid in one scene. It is without the band-aid or the scars in the next scene. It is again with a different band aid in the next scene.
