This review is about TOI app that I recently updated on my phone. I must say this but with the recent updates on their app, the ads on the app have become unmanageable, their push notifications quite stubborn. If I am going out without a power bank I have to ensure the app’s notification/permissions are turned off to extend my phone’s battery life.
No doubt, Times Of India may have the highest readers( offline/online) in India, but they claiming their app as the best news app is very condescending with themselves. Their app standing is on #9 among the popular news app on Google Play Store. The news content on the app is also distasteful: sensationalism being their cup of tea.
In addition, I used to once watch Time Now channel( their popular Live TV) through my Vodafone Play app and Airtel TV app. But off late Times have taken off their Live TV from all the third party service providers’ apps and have baked into their own app. I wonder how many people have shifted to their app to catch glimpse of the loud and gibberish talk shows on their app.
The one and only thing I somehow, distantly like about their app is their concept of night reading mode, which I am sure the idea was also borrowed from the Amazon’s Kindle.
