SOMEDAY IN THE LAST WEEK I had a discussion with my colleague Mr Nair about the good books which are not popular in India. In between we discussed about the book ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’ by Mitch Albom. Mr Nair is a bibliophile and owns a private library at his place. Nair told me that he bought the book only bcoz of the catchy title and he recommended this book to me. He told me that this is worth reading. Yes he was right. !!
Last week I went to Bangalore Commercial Street for Diwali shopping. Hi laa.. I found the book on the footpath and bought it for Rs 40/-.
Plot:-
There are three main characters in this story or should I say this biography?
(1) Mitch Albom:
Mitch, the author appears in the story as an enthusiastic student
(2) Morrie:
Morrie, the protagonist as the teacher who is having a different view on life
(3) Ted Koppel:
Ted, a mere mortal represents the typical human of the contemporary world.
In the first part of the story, Mitch paints Morrie as a teacher & a role model for all students including him. The graduation of Mitch puts an end to the first part of the story. He was not able to keep his word to be in touch with his favorite teacher. In the second part, he meets his teacher after a very long gap. They discuss about the most important things in life. They discuss about life, love, marriage, family, money, death and a few other things. I am not going deep into the gist of the story. You might oppose the thoughts of Morrie. But you will appreciate the will power of Morrie who considered himself as lucky even in last moments of life.
The unbelievable thoughts of a dying patient make this story a class apart.
Cheers
