I have been using the TVS XL Super for about 7 years now(21000KMS). I do the maintenance and servicing on my own. It is a good bike, never has broken down. But electricals are very poor. I have had frequent headlight failures in its early life. The light would glow when the handle bar is turned and go off when straight. Then I figured that it is a problem with the wired soldered under the petrol tank(very poor of TVS to have soldered wires, couldnt they use a connector). Then I bought a connector from an electrical shop for Rs.2 or so and connected it properly. Even now whenever the headlight fails, I only suspect the joint area. The light focusses very well.
I once drove the bike in 1 foot of water and the water entered the carburetor(not the engine). It was 11pm in the night and one of those very rainy days in chennai. But still I was able to ride it home(8 kms away from the flooding) as I figured that the engine will run if I kept on holding the choke. The engine became very hot. I cld hear water splashing on it an evaporating instantaneously to steam. Because of this over hearing, a kickstarter "U" spring lost its temper. From then on the bike would start only when it is cold. After driving for a while, if I had stop the engine(say to fill petrol), the kickstarter will slip. I had to wait to cool off. I figured the culprit to the "U" spring that had lost its temper. Replaced it for Rs.5(I am the mechanic for my bike) and the problem was solved. After this incident, there is a little oil leak from the gear box also(which I plan to fix soon). I think the seals have also aged faster.
Right now I am facing a different problem. When I want to accelerate fast(bigger vehicles sometimes honk and chase you from behind), the vehicle does not cross 30KMPH. There is a noise like pre-detonation(I know it is not) with vibration. However on slow acceleration it can reach speeds higher than 30KMPH. For this I am suspecting a clogged exhaust pipe at the exhaust port end. I am going to do the procedure I have cited here https://mouthshut.com/Comment/readcomment.php?rid=133092&com=0&r=1
