In this review my 20 favourite love songs are divided into 7 parts, and the name of the movie is found in brackets at the end of each song.
I. Looking for Love? or not?
-When you are young or feeling young, single, carefree, full of high spirits and looking for a special someone or not, then my favourite song in this particular situation would be:
1. Mausam mastana mastana, rasta anjaana anjana. Jaane kabh kis maur pe ban jaye kohi afsana, ahi ahi ahi ya. [Satte pe Satta]
II. Initial phase of Love
-When you find that dream boat of your life, but you are too shy to declare your intimate feelings, then you throw deep meaningful glances at them and the song in the background should be:
2. Na tum humme jano, na hum tumhe jaane magar lagta hai kuch aisa mera humdum mil gaya [Baat ek Raat ki]
-When you realize how deeply you have fallen in love with this person, and now there is no point of return, then you start leaping in the air and singing this song on mountaintops(or just imagine it):
3. Pehla nasha pehla gumhar, naya pyaar hai, naya intezaar. Kar lu me kya apna haal, hey dilley bekarrar tu hi bataa [Jo jeeta wohi sikhander]
-You love this person, but you want this person to admit his love for you, then a cool song in this case would be:
- Kaho na kaho yeh ankhen bolti hai oh sanam oh sanam, oh mere sanam [Murder]
-If the above song does not work, then how about this seductive #:
5. Zara zara mehekta hai, behekta hai, aaj to mera [Rehna hai tere dil me]
III. Hesitation stage
-When your dream boat has acknowledged your love, but is still hesitant, then I can think of 2 songs that will help in overcoming any misgivings he/she might have for your love:
6. Dil ne yeh kaha hey dil se, mohabbat ho gayi hey tumse. Meri jaan mere dilbar mera aetbaar kar lo, jitna bekaraar hoo me, utna bekaraar kar lo. Meri dhadkano ko samjho, tum bhi mujhse pyaar kar lo. [Dhadkan]
OR
7. Thora sa pyaar hua hey, thora hey bakhi. Hum tho dil de hi chukhe, bas teri ha hey bakhi. [Maine dil tujhko diya)
IV. Celebration of Love
-When love has finally arrived its destination and there is mutual affection, then 3 heart-warming songs pluck the strings of the heart. Celebrate your new relationship with:
8. Tu tu hey wohi, dil ne jisse apna kaha. Tu hey jaha, me hoo waha. Ab to yeh jeena tere bin hey saaza. Oh mil jaye is tara, do lehre jis tara. Phir ho na judaa ha [Yeh Waada Raha]
9. At the peak of loves passion: Suraj hua madham, chand dhalne laga. Asmaan yeh haye, kyun pighalne laga. Me tehri rahi, zameen chalne lagi. Dhadka yeh dil, saas thambne lagi. Kya yeh mera pehla pehla pyaar hey sajna. [kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham]
10. At the apex of promises of life-long committment: Aaye ho mere zindagi me tum bahaar banke. Mere dil me yuhi rehna tum pyaar pyaar banke. Mere saathi, mere saajan, mere saath yuhi chalna. Badlenga rang zamana, par tum nahi badalna. [Raja Hindustani]
V. Disharmony in Love(sob.sob)
-Unfortunately, bad times will come after good ones. When your dream boat changes from Dr. Jekyl to Mr. Hyde or love becomes cold, then a really cool song for this really sad state of affairs would be:
11. Hum yaha tum waha, yeh sama pyaar ka. Lekhin kaha shuru shuru ke pyaar sa, phir se chalo churaye dil yaar ka. [Zakhm]
-When love has to live away from you.
12. For long-distance lovers - O re manjhi, O re manjhi. Mere saajan hey us par, me man maar hoo is paar. O mere manjhi ab ki bar le chal par le chal par. [Bandini]
-When external factors stand as obstacles in the path of your love life, then a stylish song to rebel against the world for your love would be:
13. Pyaar karne wale pyaar karte hey shaan se, jeete hey shaan se marte hey shaaaaan se. Oh lete hey jis ka woh naam, unko dete lakhon salaam. Kabhi jhukte nahi, kabhi rukhte nahi chahe jo bhi ho anjaam. [Shaan]
-When your love is leaving you temporarily or permanantly, then enjoy every moment you have with them with this beautiful song in your heart:
14. Aane wala pal jaane wala hey, ho sakhe to isme zindagi bitha do pal jo yeh jane wala hey. [Golmaal] However, this song is a very versatile multi-purpose # that can be used in every situation of your life.
-Sigh, when your dream boat breaks all promises & leaves you stranded in journey of life, then the ultimatewhy am I so doomed in love heartbreak song would be:
15. Saaya bhi saath jab chor jaye aisi hai tanhayee. Rona chahoo me, asoo na aaye aisi hey tanhayee. Yaad aate hai bithe zamane, jab tum aye te humko manane. Ab to dil roothe, dard manaye, aisi hey tanhayee. [Dillagi]
VI. Recovering
-So now you have forced yourself to move on with your life and have overcome those depressing, suicidal thoughts(YIKES!) No problem! Its better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all and blah blah blah. A good song at this stage would be a love song declaring your incredible love for life:
16. Mey zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya, har fikhar ko duhe me udhata chala gaya, barbadiyo ka jhashan manata chala gaya in pukka head-shaking Dev Anand ishtyle. [Hum Dono]
-Stronger and wiser in love now, but annoying old-flame keeps coming to mind. Instead of feeling angry about the past, one should reminisce it with curiosity and wonder through this song:
17. Na Jaane kyun hota hey yeh zindagi ke saath, achanak yeh man kisi ke jaane ke badh kar phir uski yaad choti choti si baat na jaane kyun. Kaha gayi woh baatein, mulakatey. [Choti si Baat]
VII. Conclusion(New beginnings)
-Ok, now what if someone new walks into your life and expresses interest in you, but cannot stop wondering why you keep flashing a constant 32-watt smile. Then a great song to express this phenomenon would of course be:
18. Yes you guessed it right(that is if anyone is still reading this review) - Tum itna jo muskura rahe ho, kya ghum hey jo tum chupa rahe ho. Ankhon me nami, labho pe hasi hey.[Arth]
-Different situation: How about if your ex-flame decides to come back to you like the legendary butterfly that you have to release, and if it flies back to you, then this supposedly proves true love or some BS like that. Ok, enough on the butterfly/true love theory.
Anyway, in this case, you have 2 options - rejection or acceptance.
If you reject ex-flame, then song should be like a hindi version of Nancy Sinatras Hit the Road Jack. Unfortunately, there is no Hit the Road version in Hindi, so an equally appropriate song would be:
19. Ja re ja o harjayi, dekhi teri dildari. Dil dekhe me kar bethi dil ke dushman se yaari. Tujhko ankhon me barkey mar gayi me tujhpe mar gayi, pathar ki puja karke haari me haari. [?]
-If you accept your ex-flame back in your life with a forgiving heart and commit each other to enjoying a life-long understanding, mature relationship, then celebrate this blissfulness with a very popular song loved by many:
20. Jab kohi baat bighar jaye jab kohi mushkil par jaye, tum dena saath mera o humnavaz. Na kohi hey na kohi tha zindagi me tumhare siva, tum dena saath mera.[Jurm]
Anyway, alls well that ends well.
